It’s not polite to simply pump out links and it’s also considered un-cool to send direct messages to people for the purposes of spamming. It’s wise to consider your ratio of promotional to non-promotional tweets and check it regularly because nearly anyone who is going to consider following you is going to probably look at your last ten to twenty tweets to see if you’re worthy of adding to their list of people to follow.

I really get annoyed when the same person sends out 20 twitter posts all containing links (obviously for marketing purposes) within a 5 minute period – totally spamming.
I remove these people as soon as I see it. Its OK to send out tweets, but sometimes people just go overboard.
Like all the social media sites, Twitter has its own etiquette/unspoken rules. Interesting when you learn about them and what ticks people off.

I love using Twitter and I think it’s like all the other social media sites. I think I will be most successful when I work on building relationships with people before I start pushing my products at them.
I definitely think that the most successful people are the ones who are best at creating conversations, socializing and networking. I do think a subtle approach to marketing your products is needed with Twitter.
I find Twitter is a great way to keep an eye on what the competition is up to!
Just as an experiment I created a Twitter user purely for experimenting with internet marketing. While I use a nom-de-plume, I am up front with what I am doing. I state that I am just curious about what to do and not do with internet marketing. At last count I had nearly 2000 followers and it is increasing by over 100 per day. Most of my tweets have other peoples links on them (using the YOTA SBMT). One day, if this account has enough followers, it could be worth something.

It has taken me a while to build a following on Twitter. I must admit I did not had a focus when I joined so my Tweets are a bit all over the place on what I tweeted about.
I’m not sure if I have potential customers following – or that I follow. I could only have merchants who want to sell to me something.
I’m following over 2000 people but have not made “friends” with anyone. I will need to do better and rectify that now that I have a better understanding what’s required and why it’s important to make personal contacts with people.
