On Page SEO

On page SEO refers to things you do on your website to optimize it for search engines.  These things could be your headers, meta tags, site map and content optimization with keywords.

Off Page SEO

Off page SEO refers to performing actions in cyberspace to improve your website’s optimization.  Such actions could include:  commenting on other blogs, getting text links posted on other sites, pointing to your website in forum links and social bookmarking.

The above basic tasks are a great way to get your feet wet with search engine optimization. The more the search engines find your site friendly and relevant the more visitors you’ll get.

You’ll find a wealth of free information online to help you maximise your website’s potential for productive traffic. Read blogs, ebooks, forums and websites that focus on search engine marketing for great tips to help you get started.  Watching your site’s traffic and page rank rise can be like watching an exciting horse race.  A little bit of effort and research on your part can definitely bring you dividends!

duplicate contentRyan from HubPages popped by in our last post when we talked about using HubPages to promote your product and site.  Ryan reminded us in comments that free sites like HubPages are looking for unique content.

Content Pays

The more content you’ve got out there pointing to your site, the better! But in your quest for online success you might come across online content spinners that take your articles and mix them up with the idea that you can submit the same article to multiple places.  You might also think it’s ok to take one article and send it to 35 article directories. Be very careful of this type of philosophy.  While you might be able to get some backlinks and traffic, you could also get your online wrist slapped. Sites like HubPages and E-ZineArticles want solid, unique content so could simply reject your articles as well.

Maximum Google Juice

There’s a testimonial right on HubPages every time I log in that talks about Google Juice. Sites that will publish your content for you want to be unique otherwise it dilutes their Google juice online so do yourself a favour and take the time to bring something unique to the table when posting online.  While a little bit of regurgitation could save you time and effort, if you don’t provide enough value to the reader and take the time to put effort into your off-page SEO efforts you won’t get much out of them.

SEO Strategies: Should You Resort To Trickery?

seo tricksThe search engines can seem flaky at times and it can get frustrating when you’re trying to rank but having trouble.  It can be tempting to resort to black hat seo tactics. Rest assured, if you do things the right way, you’ll be much better off in the long run.

Tricking SE’s

Doing things like spamming and putting up invisible text might fool a search engine temporarily but won’t last for long. Soon, you’ll get banned and it won’t have an easy time getting off the black list. Instead, do your best to do your on page SEO and off page SEO consistently and honestly and you’ll eventually reap the results.

Tricking Visitors

Should you resort to trickery with your customers?  Never!  If you optimise for words that really are irrelevant on your site, they won’t stay; they’ll just click elsewhere. Just like the search engines will eventually figure you out, so will they.  Bad press travels way faster than good press so it’s wise to be honest and up front and do business with integrity at all times.  Become a trusted adviser to your customers and they’ll believe in you.

This might all seem really obvious but in a world where not everyone online is being up front and honest, it doesn’t hurt to have some affirmations on a regular basis about honesty and integrity. By being trustworthy and honest, people will buy what you sell and believe what you say and they’ll say nice things about you online which will will get you noticed and bring you more sales.
