Have you heard the old saying that ‘first impressions count’?
Well this still rings true even when it comes to the home page design of your website. How many times do you visit another website and immediately click away to somewhere else because you didn’t like the look of what you saw?
Content is King
Even though content is king when it comes to the internet, and people look for websites on the basis that they will be able to find the information they are looking for, the appearance of that site does a lot to maintain or ruin the reputation of the site owners.
Let’s think about this for a moment. Let’s say for sake of argument that I set up two websites with identical content but I change the layout and appearance of the home page web design on each one. The first one is highly professional and puts all the most important information where it will be easy to see. The second site’s home page design is very different. It is messy, not well structured at all – and it’s obvious that it’s a home made job.
Now given that the information is exactly the same on each site, right down to the last full stop, which site would you be more likely to get your information from?
You know the answer and so do I.
Home Page Design Importance
That’s how important your home page design is. Not only does it have the power to affect who stays on your site and who goes to your competition, it also gives people an impression of who you are which can help with your conversion rates. You are the boss, the person who runs the site and runs the business. If your home page design lets you down, it’s very likely that other people won’t have the best impression of you – and that could be hurting your sales.
