Twitter is a great tool for marketing and networking with others. The micro-blogging tool is best when you have a following of people to talk to.
Your followers are the people who will read your updates to your timeline so it stands to reason that efforts to get more followers can get you more results. They might click your links, start discussions with you that result in their followers following you, and might click your links and buy your products.
10 Twitter Tips
• Follow others. By following others, it increases the chances of them following you back.
• Find people with likeminded interests and / or people talking about subjects you plan to ‘tweet’ about. You can do this through using the Twitter Search tool and searching with specific keywords.
• Join Twitter memes like #Follow Friday which can get you followed.
• Let Twitter look through your e-mail address book to see if people already in your contact list have a Twitter account.
• Let Twitter’s friend finding feature suggest users to you.
• Put your Twitter URL in your signature on forums you request as well as in your e-mail signature.
• Add a Twitter badge to your website / blog. This is a widget that can be created from Twitter to display your status directly on your blog.

• Go for quality instead of quantity in your Twitter updates.
• Re-tweet other people’s Tweets. They’ll thank you for it!
Twitter is one of the many tools that you can use to improve your social marketing results. It’s currently one of the hottest tools around with increasing numbers of users daily and increasing tools that can make it even more productive.
If you’re already micro-blogging somewhere else, consider using a service like FriendFeed or Ping.Fm to update multiple social marketing services for you, so that you can get all the advantages of tools without having to spend time replicating efforts on individual tools each and evey day.

Thanks a lot for your tipps. I put my twitterurl into my signatures of two big boards, and that helped a lot!
very useful twitter tips, twitter is also useful in getting traffic to a blog
Hi Sean,
I really like using Twitter. It’s a lot of fun and I find it to be very helpful in getting traffic to my blog. Also, it’s really easy to search for your target audience so you can learn more about what they are looking for and find ways to give it to them.
Hi Sean
Some helpful tips here. I didn’t know about some of these features especially the suggest a friend option. Sort of like Facebook. I have joined Friendfeed and brought Twitter into it as well as a few others.
The meme sounds interesting. I will have to get a better understanding of how it works.
Is it advisable to use Friendfeed and Ping.fm or one or the other?
Hi Sean
I have only just started to use Twitter. I noticed I was getting a few followers so took your advice from another article you wrote and started befriending some of them back (some I didn’t as I wasn’t too sure if you know what I mean!)
I have just printed off the 10 twitter tips and stuck it on the whiteboard by my desk so I can go through and implement each point.
Thanks Sean, I really appreciate your input.
Thanks for these tips to get for followers on twitter. I actually implemented a couple of these already from reading another one of your posts and already I have been seeing some action on my twitter account. I searched for people in my niche and followed them and I am slowly starting to gain followers back. I still don’t use twitter like it should be used so that is going on my daily routine list.
Sounds like you are getting the hang of Twitter nicely Jackie, keep it up
