social bookmarkingShould you do social bookmarking on your blog? Today’s post covers the how and the why? Having a blog of your own is fabulous and can build your SEO on your site as well as sell your wares as a marketer but only if people find it and read it.

Why Use Social Bookmarking?

Today, the web is all about Web 2.0 and the social side of the Internet and that’s one of the reasons blogs can be so effective and profitable. Not only does the way the web works with social bookmarking give you the ability to get more exposure for your blog but it helps you find more relevant websites to link to and to gain knowledge from as well. Web 2.0 tools can be integrated into your site and you can also use them yourself after you’ve created a new blog entry. Here are a few tools you can use and a few tips:

Technorati

Technorati is a blog directory. Once you list your blog, people can find you. The more popular you are, the more potential new visitors you get. Technorati is a robust tool worthy of a full post about it which we’ll explore another day but for today, let’s just say that by using technorati tags in your blog, you can increase your blog visitors based on people who want the information you’re sharing. This is also a great tool for keeping up with blogs you are interested in reading.

Blog Catalog or MyBlogLog

Joining Blog Catalog or MyBlogLog gives you access to another directory of blogs and people can find you in those directories. There are also some great widgets you can display to dress up your blog and by visiting other blogs in your niche, you can display your face on other blogs and entice new visitors.

Digg

Digg is a great tool for getting traffic to specific articles. By logging into the tool and submitting specific articles, you can bring traffic to your site. When you put a digg button on your post, you also get the bonus of letting your blog subscribers or visitors show their appreciation by giving you some social love.

There are dozens and dozens of social tools out there to help you maximize your blog and website’s potential which can help you make more money online.

Have a most outstanding day.

It’s great how many free tools there are to promote what you are doing online. Would you recommend to do everything or have a favorite that you do a lot and some that you do occasionally? Or is ocassionally a waist of time?

Nothing wrong with only using some services occasionally Renee, as long as there are a few of them that you use consistently and focus on. You will tend to have more success with the services that you put the most effort into.

Hi Sean,

I love social bookmarking. I think it’s really important to make it easy for your readers to share your content. The easier it is to share your content, the more places your content gets sent to and the more chances it has to go viral.

There are so many cool social bookmarking icons you can get. It makes sense to use them because it all helps to get new and loyal readers to check out your content.

Hi Sean

I am with all these services you have mentioned. I also like Zimbio, which you recommended, although it is a manual operation. Doesn’t take long though. I am finding with my posts quite often they are listed on the search engines via these sites and other one’s I don’t know about. I presume they are picking them up via one of the blog directories.

Social bookmarking can be one of the corners stones in your bag of tools to drive traffic to your blog. In the past I’ve favoured Digg, Delicious, and Stumbleupon. I’m also registered at BlogCatalog and MyBlogLog but hadn’t accessed those account for a long time until today. But there are many, many more to choose from. Take a look around. And there are many online tools to let you quickly make submissions to multiple social bookmarking sites.

One of the advantages I’m finding from the Learn and Earn competition other than the obvious is that as I read these articles, I’m prompted to take a look at what I’ve done in the past then let sit and gather dust.

I use Digg, Delicious, Stumble Upon and Friend feed at the moment although I don’t spend near enough time in there as I should. The others you mention here are on my future list.

There are so many great places you can submit to for exposure for your site and incorpating web 2.0 will be a very important factor for the success of my blogs. Getting exposure on these sites sounds fantastic and is obviously something which you can develop and build as you go.

Hi Sean

I think it’s very interesting that because of web 2.0, blogs are effective and so is social media. Now I can get to share the content on my blog with many social media sites and in turn get more links and traffic to my site.

The last points accumulating challenge of writing a blog about Sean is a good test for using web 2.0 to help promote it for page ranking.
