Should You Go With What You Know?

Getting started in internet marketing is an exciting prospect. But it can be overwhelming too. There are so many options to consider that you would be forgiven for not knowing where to turn or what to try first.

ideasThis is where a little thought can go a long way. Many people start off in internet marketing by sticking with what’s familiar to them. For example, if you have a natural interest in wine making you might set up your own website giving lots of information to novice winemakers. You could try and find some e-books on the subject which offer an affiliate scheme to make money from.

Starting with what you know certainly gives you a direction and focus to start with, and you are on familiar ground as well, which helps you to get off to a roaring start.

But should you stick with what you know in the long run? After all those subjects you are familiar with may not have a wide enough scope to make you your first million in internet marketing. That’s when you need to think about branching out and identifying other areas of internet marketing to get involved with.

Explore Other Options

You don’t need to go for areas which you have no knowledge of at all, however. There is a temptation to jump in the deep end after a while, especially if your success in internet marketing has been fuelled by a subject you know a lot about.

Try and ensure you maintain a balance between making the most of what you know, and exploring other areas which may yield even more in internet marketing profits. If you do this you will get a much better end result – and you will learn and earn far more as a result.

Have a most outstanding day.

Nice post. In my opinion, we should not go with what we know expect we are confident in that. Even 1percent confusion would let your ideas down. Starting online business is always a exiting. To get successes in any type of business it needs proper knowledge and planning.

Hi Sean,

I guess that I want to use Internet Marketing around the things that I love and am passionate about. The whole point is to move away from anything that even closely resembles a real job. I want to choose things that are a little more fun to do than what I’m used to doing.

Still, I do love to learn new things so if something can up that I was interested in, I would probably do it.:)

I’d agree with Jazz. I would stick at my passion for quite a while.
I suppose if I could find related things to that which I could learn about that would be ideal. Would give more choices as to the products I could offer.

I’m not so much interested in making a million, more just a comfortable living which would allow a lifestyle to do what I want to.

Using your passion is definitely a great basis for IM, as you have the knowledge and also the interest to learn more and more about it – and pass it on. On the other hand, if you are learning something new you can create a blog and let your readers participate in your development. And in your experience with products. Not a bad idea either I think :)

Hi Sean

This is very solid advice, and a sensible way to start Internet Marketing is to go with what you know.
The reason being is that you will have knowledge on your chosen subject and a passion behind it to drive it. You will start seeing results a lot sooner than someone who has no idea what product to sell or promote.

I think once you have successfully started to attract money from your first efforts you can afford to try something else that is different like affiliate marketing as an example.

As you try different areas of online marketing, your confidence will grow and so too your knowledge base.

My biggest mistake when I started my online adventure was to start with something I only knew a little about, only now I am seeing that was the wrong way to start.

I am now doing what I do know and love even though it is a huge market.

I have decided that I am going to do a combination of what I know (I can write the content), what I sort of know – I can outsource some of the content, and a good money making niche where I don’t really know anything – content mainly outsourced – but at the same time I am learning something new and improving myself and my knowledge.
