KeywordsEvery seasoned internet marketer will know that keywords are the key to success if you want to draw the right people towards your website. But there are certain rules and other things to bear in mind if you want your site to keep up with the times and bring in the biggest amount of customers possible.

No matter what type of business you are in on the internet, you will probably be using a specific set of targeted keywords to help attract the right people. All well and good so far, but how often do you check those keywords to see if they are still performing as well as they could be?

Change Keywords Frequently

How relevant this is to your site will depend on what you sell and what the nature of your business is. At the most extreme end of sales, you might need to change your keywords every few weeks to make sure you take into account the most popular search terms of the moment. For example, if you run a website concerned with the latest fashions for men and women, your targeted keywords could change frequently. If they don’t – and if you don’t make the effort to keep up with what’s going on in your industry, you will soon discover that you are losing out on a lot of sales.

Monitor Targeted Keywords

Monitoring the performance of your targeted keywords should be almost a daily thing for you. Over time you will get to spot trends and familiarities within your line of work, which will help you to choose the best keywords for any particular occasion.

With a list of preferred words and phrases that people use you will find it much easier to grab more sales on a regular basis – not to mention learn more about your target customers, which in the long run could be worth a small fortune.

Have a most outstanding day.

Hi Sean,

I spend a lot of time chasing the right keywords. But, I think I’m doing something wrong and I’m not sure what it is. When I do my research, I expect to get a certain amount of clicks. I don’t get them though. Do you have any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

It is probably to do with the linking issue. You may be like me and expect the searches because that is what the keyword tool told you. We have to remember that it is only the top ranked sites that will get the traffic. And they will get it most likely because of their linking strategies.

I had not thought about the necessity of updating keywords. It makes sense though when I think about changing trends, and by checking keywords frequently I will be able to spot those trends and adjust the keywords if necesary.
