SEO For Status UpdatesSearch engine optimisation is something that internet marketers can benefit from integrating into all their online activities. Using SEO within your status updates can help you in many ways.

Not only can this bring you more search engine indexings, but more interested people can find your content online as well.

Status Updates – Keywords For SEO

Status updates on microblogs are indexed in search engines. Do think about using keywords when you’re updating your Twitter, Plurk, Friendfeed, and other status lines.

URL Tip: URL shorteners are great and sometimes necessary but if you can work a link in that has keywords in it without running out of space, do it! Don’t forget the hashtag, too! If you’re writing about something specific, a # before the most relevant keyword can result in interested people finding you.

Social Bookmarking – Add Categories And Tags

If social bookmarking, utilise the ability to add categories and tags. These do help make a difference to people and search engines that are surfing through that site looking for information. Many social bookmarking sites have tag clouds and search features that help people find information they’re looking for so tagging could help people find you.

Comments

Many social bookmarking sites offer the ability to add more information beyond your bookmark. Stumbleupon suggests you write a review, Digg leaves room for conversations, Mixx and Reddit also offer the ability to get conversations started.

Take advantage of this and use keywords so interested people have more of a chance of finding you. Stop back and check in on conversations you’ve started as they could be ideal for developing new relationships.

Sharing – Spread The Word

Don’t forget sharing! Some social media sites allow you to share your finds with other members in the community that ‘follow’ you. You can do this with Stumbleupon and Delicious, for instance. Don’t hesitate to ask friends to bookmark for you as well. They may add additional tags and categories for you as well.

Continuous SEO efforts really do add up and optimising your status updates are no exception. The more you’re able to dominate search engines with your content, the better chance you have of making sales!

Have a most outstanding day.

Sean

Thanks for explaining all about the value of SEO in status updates. I knew SEO was pretty extensive but not as deep as this.

Well now there is even something more for me to investigate. I had not heard of either Mixx or Reddit until this article.

I will investigate and add what I am able to understand and apply to my SEO efforts.

Thanks.

Hi Sean,

This is excellent advice and again this is something that I’m not doing properly. I need to make it a habit to start using SEO within my status updates. It’s such a simple thing and it will make a difference.

On this list, the only thing I’m really doing is adding categories and tags to my bookmarking. So, it just shows how much I still have to learn.

Hi Sean,
I didn’t realize that search engines indexed microblog updates and that keywords are important in this area of advertising.

Twitter, I think always uses URL shorteners in posts but possibly many other Social Media sites don’t. Does URL shortneners effect keywords in for SEO purposes? Also I’m not sure. What is a hashtag?

Great article. Thank-you.

Hi Sean

I had not heard of Mixx or Reddit either until now. I am still not certain what a hash tag is and what it is used for?
