You may already have a good idea of how to build links that help optimise your web pages for certain keywords. If you don’t, you’ll find a lot of helpful resources that will teach you how.Link Building Strategies

Link building is an integral part of SEO; it does not stand on its own as the way to achieve higher ranking for your pages. Some link building tactics are actually more of an art form than a simple set of rules to follow that guarantee high quality links.

Take blog commenting, for instance. It’s as simple as adding a comment to someone else’s post, right? Not exactly. There are actually quite a few factors that come into play.

It’s important to learn how to build quality links both quickly and effectively without using black hat  techniques or even gray hat SEO tactics that might put your site in the sandbox. Below we will cover some link building strategies that are both effective and simple to implement.

Get Your Site Added To The Blogroll

Here’s an easy way to create links while you’re doing what you probably do on a normal basis anyway – visit blogs and read the posts in or related to your niche. Next time you visit one of your favourites, or even when you find a new one with good content, take a moment to send a message to the blog owner and ask to be added to the blogroll. If you agree to reciprocate, chances are good that your site will get linked right away. Simple, easy, efficient, and it gives you an inbound link from a quality site.

And while you’re there, why not leave a comment? Even if it is nofollow, there is still benefit.

One Piece of Content – Multiple Links

Link BuildingCreate one good piece of content – an article, video, quiz, top 10 list, or anything related to the topic of your site. Then use that one piece of content to create links from various places. You can tweet a tiny URL, post a video on YouTube, submit the article to a directory, bookmark the URL of a blog post or video at numerous sites, ping it, add to a forum message, etc. The point is that one good piece can result in a lot of link juice.

Do You Squidoo?

Sites like Squidoo or HubPages are great places to include for your link building strategy. It takes a bit of time to get them set up, but if you develop a basic template that includes such things as a quiz, a top 10 list, an article, and a survey, you need only update each section once a week or so. After initial setup, it takes little time to add new content and throw in a link.

Link Building Via Social Bookmarking

Social BookmarkingTake one day a week and visit all the social bookmarking sites where you have an account and then submit your latest blog post. There are software programs that will do this for you automatically but if you want to go the cheapest route, just take a few minutes on a regular basis to submit your content manually. The links created are quality, and might just help your content go viral.

Building links can become much more manageable when you take these simple link building strategies and work on one or two at a time. It doesn’t need to bog down your entire day, but if you schedule the same day every week to set aside time to perform link building, you’ll soon see the fruits of your labour in traffic and perhaps in fans, subscribers, and sales as well.

Do you have any link building strategies you would like to share in the comments below?

Have a most outstanding day.

Social bookmarking is great for backlinks Marion. Particularly the larger sites like Stumbleupon, Delicious and Friendfeed. Make sure you take note of their individual terms of service and best practices.

Hi, I have a doubt regarding Blogroll, I had many request for blogrolls, however I was once advised by my friend that by using blogroll, the page rank could be damaged. Is it true . Is it safe to have blogrolls?

I have never heard that one before Ramkumar. I doubt the blogroll would have any effect on pagerank whatsoever since pagerank is mostly determined by the amount and quality of links pointing to your site. There are plenty of rumours around, the truth is that no one really knows exactly… except for Google of course ;-)

I have also read this. In fact many people advise against using blogrolls and limit linking out to other sites as it will “bleed” page rank.

I fail to see Google applying such logic to their algorithm as this would just be detrimental to the Internet as we know it.

This is an area which I am in great need of improving. Your post has given me hope.

I think that beginning tomorrow I will organize myself in such a way as to gently and systematically build links through blogroll and such.

I find that adding my site to directories feels good. I don’t have any specific results to support this, but I try to add a directory every day or so. I also make sure I plug my website in all the articles I submit through distributeyourarticles.com.

I am going to reread this post and see if I can find a real way of doing things that will improve my work sensibly.

Your advice sounds good, but I am going to have to absorb it a bit since I am really a novice in this world of internet marketing.

Thanks heaps.

The blogroll is a great idea. What a compliment for a blogger to be listed on someone else’s blogroll.

thanks Sean

Lots of tips on building links. It is pretty amazing how many places you get links from.
I am presuming as far as SEO is concerned, it would be a good strategy to target the high page rank sites in every classification.

Hi Sean,
great tips for link building strategies. I didn’t think to ask others directly to put me on their blogroll, I guess I want to feel I have to offer a bit more on my blog first. But I will keep it in mind.

Renee, I notice that most of the blogs I look at don’t have blog rolls so a blog / blog roll treasure hunt might be needed to find some that might be willing to mutually reciprocate in a link building strategy.

Hi Sean,

There are so many link building strategies. I really like your suggestion of breaking it down into small manageable tasks than trying to do it all in one day. I think it’s a matter of trying to build links consistently.

I think it is a good strategy to keep a physical internet marketing diary and pick one day of every week, and a fixed time span, for link building.
