Link bait, baits people into linking to it. Backlinks are good, so creating effective link bait can definitely benefit your online business. Link popularity can equal success in search engines and with making inroads into becoming known online by peers and prospective customers.Link Bait

Have you ever seen a blog post with hundreds of Twitter re-tweets, with dozens of pingbacks in the comments, and / or loads of Diggs (thumbs up on the social bookmarking site Digg)? Something about that blog post made people want to link to it and share it with their followers.

Getting people to link to you in high volumes isn’t always easy but if you can swing it, it can be very lucrative. Here are some tips to help you strive for link bait:

5 Link Bait Tips

1. Be incredibly funny – A lot of experts say that humour won’t bring you sales but it could bring you links. If you are funny, relate to your industry, and appeal to your peers with something everyone relates to, you could get a lot of links to your blog or website. Be careful, though. There can be a very fine line between funny and crass!

2. Release breaking news – Got the scoop on something? If you’re sure about it and it’s big news, your post could get linked to by many people. Be careful in this regard that you don’t cross any ethics or legal lines but if you do get information out quickly, you could be featured in Google News and on a lot of other websites, which could send you high traffic levels and great search engine results.

3. Solve a problem that’s on everyone’s mind – By everyone, this could apply to your niche, your competitors, and to a segment of the internet commerce industry. A truly helpful post could get linked to and referred to regularly, over a long period of time.

4. Hit a target market with unique information in list form – Lists make great link bait. 5 Ways to Solve Your Biggest Problem, 7 Ways to Make Money Right Now; you get the idea. Make sure you write well-researched info. Deliver what you promise in the title!

5. Appeal to fan bases – Linkbait posts in social news and search engine optimisation sites often make references to pop culture that also relate to sharing information. Check the first few pages of Digg or Sphinn and you’ll see some great examples.

Think you’ve got a winning link bait post on your hands? Start the ball rolling! Do some serious social bookmarking on some of the top bookmarking sites and link to the post in more than one place. Then, others could follow suit and you could see traffic results that pay off for some time to come!

Have a most outstanding day.

Hi Sean,
The 5 Link Bait tips are very helpful. Writing an incredibly funny blog is appealing. I don’t have any ideas right now though. I’ll look for examples besides Witty Sam’s blog. She does comedy well.

They’re all good tips. Releasing breaking news is another one.

Thanks for this information Sean.
I think it is really important to add value to the internet – with all the rubbishy auto blogs out there churning out the same information it’s important to actually have something new to say. I really like the suggestions you have made for link bait.
Thanks again
