If you operate a blog or website either as your primary earnings method or as an addition to your money making ventures you might consider trading links with someone in your niche that has a complimentary product or service. You can trade links and help one another with SEO. It’s a great idea to trade blog comments and even write guest posts for each other.
Why Trade Links?
Getting links on other related blogs in cyberspace and related blog links on your blog as well can help you with your SEO and can contribute to increased page rank with search engines. The more you’re plugged into topics and linked, the the more relevant search engines will view your site as being.
Places to Find Other Bloggers in Your Niche
Blog Catalog is a great place to find bloggers in your niche. Search on a tag (category) related to your own niche and you’ll find others in that category that you can visit. You can also send private messages to others to suggest that you trade blog links with them in your blogroll.
Consider visiting forums and putting up requests for trading links as well. Webmaster forums or forums in your particular niche can be a great place to get ideas and find bloggers to do blog carnivals and niches with.

Hi Sean,
I see that you wrote this post in 2008. Do you still think it’s advisable to trade links in this way in 2010? This is essentially reciprocal linking though right? So, that’s still a pretty good method?
Also, I’ve read about blog carnivals but I’ve never seen one. I’ll have to see if I can find one to join because I’ve seen a similar thing done with Squidoo lenses and it seems to be effective.
Hi Jazz
Try this

Hi Gee,
Thanks for the link. It looks interesting. I’ll have to look at it later.
Thanks for the link Gee will be checking this out I have never heard of it before
Trading links – does it mean we put each others sites on the respective blog role or we have links to the other site in a post or is both possible? Which one has the better impact?
Hi Renee
I would think both if appropriate.
Let’s see what the maestro thinks
What an interesting site! Its great that we have a community here that we can share ideas to help each other out!
Yes Jayne,
This is where we meet lot’s of like minded people who can become our blog buddies. It’s a great idea to network like this as we all have something that we can share with one another.
I can see the benefit of connecting with other bloggers in the same niche to exchange links. But it will be most beneficial if the other link sharer is promoting a product complimentary to yours and not in direct competition.
And this is the first time I’ve even heard of a Blog Carnival. Interesting concept. I’ll have to check that out later.
You have a good point there Don, in our enthusiasm to find people to trade links with we could forget to think about whether we are linking up with a complimentary product. Thank you
Trading links is a neat idea – it is also a service to readers who, not finding exactly what they want on your blog, can then go and search elsewhere based on your blogroll.
We can’t provide all the answers folks see info about, so it doesn’t hurt if they leave your site.
Also, even if the another blog is also promoting the same, it may not matter as there is a huge market out there.
Trading links sounds great, what worries me is, what if my blog isn’t good enough, professionally I mean!
Must look up Blog Catalog!
Thanks Sean.
Hi Sean
I think that trading links with someone in my niche is a great idea. Trading comments and writing guest articles is fantastic. I would love to do that as it helps one another in so many ways, not only with SEO but building a virtual partnership, a friendship and maybe even collaborating on promotions or contests or even co writing Ebooks together etc.
I have quite a few ideas already so it is something I would consider doing when I meet the right person.
Thankyou.
Another great idea from Sean about additional ways and sources to get links to your site and build your reputation.
We haven’t traded links Jayne! Are you still gardening? Online that is, not in your yard!
