Do I Need To Use Original Content On My Sites?

Whether you do article marketing, blogging or have a content rich website, original website content will get you:

  • Noticed by search engines
  • Noticed by people

The more original content you create and original ideas you share,  the more often search engines (and subsequent people who could be potential customers) will visit your website.

A lot of internet marketers try to cut corners by using too many PLR articles, free articles or spun content systems but it’s wise to use as much original content on your site as you can.  While you can use private label rights articles to create unique content and use your own articles re-tooled at times to turn a long article into a series of shorter blog posts or take a blog and turn it into an e-book, it’s wise to use as much original content as you can. It’s advantageous to have at least 80% original content on your website. Using original website content that is well-written with a call to action will also get you more conversions from visitors to customers.

What about article spinners?

There are software article spinners on the market that will take an article and give you several versions of it. This might work out OK for getting article backlinks but won’t do much for you in terms of getting you fresh customers becuase the software often uses synonyms that can dilute the meaning of the article.  You’ll also find that most of these programs will require heavy editing which negates the time saving aspect of using them.

How do you get original ideas?

If you feel like you can’t come up with enough ideas for content, here are some tips:

  • Subscribe to news and alerts about your niche so that topics come to your inbox. Do this with Google Alerts, for example.
  • Use keyword tools to help you come up with fresh ideas and angles about a topic
  • Look at Google and Yahoo results for your targeted niche words. Are there angles missing that you could write about?

Content is an important part of your efforts to corner the market in your niche so try to write fresh content for your site weekly and you should see a huge increase in your website’s success.

Have a most outstanding day.

Askimet is helpful but doesn’t help 100% of the spam. It is definitely a problem for some sites, especially popular ones. If you’re getting emails from the same offenders (which is often the case) you can also block their IP address in your blog settings. Cheers

I love your blog. There is so much out there which is worthless, but this is a real gold mine of quality information. Many thanks from a grateful surfer – Beth Little.

Hi Sean,

I totally agree that we need to use as much original content on our sites as possible. I don’t have a problem writing the content; it’s trying to make it unique and stand out in a crowd that’s giving me trouble. Still, it gives me something to work on. :)

Article spinners are not something I’ve used and I have to say that they don’t look like something I’d do. :)

Some marketers supposedly used spinners to save time. I have looked at them but like them. You have to come up with variations of different phrases for them to work. It can end up being more work. If you are finding it hard to come up with content you could hire a writer. There are some good ones at reasonable prices. You will need to check out their work as some of them provide bad quality. If you are interested in this I can give you some contacts.

Sean

Would a small amount of articles from article directories be detrimental for SEO?

As long as it’s a very small amount, I think you should be fine Gee. In saying that, you would be far better off creating an original article from the information you learn from other articles.

Hi
I had a look at spinning but by the time you have changed a heap of words you could have written the article anyway, I have asked a couple of friends if they would write of their travels but have had no takers so I just have to do it myself for the time being

Wow, I didn’t know there was such thing as an article spinner. Uni students writing essays all over the world can now rejoice!… But honestly, original content is what will make consumers happy, internet marketers successful, and the internet actually useful.

Hi Sean,
I haven’t written many blog posts so have not had a problem finding original content as yet. Not many people are blogging about Common Law so I am lucky to not have much competition on this subject.

I don’t think Article spinner is a good idea. I would rather pay someone to write an article if it came down to that. I don’t think they would be qualified enough to suit me liking though. Not after hearing Me McClures version of Common Law.
Great info, thanks.
