If you’re ready to take the plunge into internet marketing, you need to choose a niche. If you’re entrenched already and want to choose a new niche, the following information should come in handy.  You don’t have to limit yourself to just one but you will want to start with one at a time. How do you decide?

Get your sleuth tools out. You’ll need:

  • A magnifying glass
  • A shovel
  • A notebook
  • A desire to learn

Ok, so you really don’t need all that stuff but you will need to look closely (magnifying glass) and you will need to do some digging (shovel).  Once you find a niche you’re interested in, you’ll need to regularly research it and plan (notebook). If it’s going to be successful, you’ll want to master learning all you can about it so you choose the best approach and maximise your profit earning potential.

Here are some tips for making your choice:

  • Look at the top selling products on affiliate networks like Clickbank or Commission Junction and see if anything appeals to you
  • Look at Google Trends for hot topics and then look at affiliate networks to see what products match those trends
  • Get or buy a list of some of the most profitable known keywords

Other considerations:

1. Look to get into something you either know about or would like to know about. If you already know about it, it won’t be difficult to get started and if you want to know about it you won’t mind all the research you’re going to do.

2. Make a plan to get started.  That plan might include creating a blog and putting up ads, deciding to write an e-book, making some free online pages, and doing some article marketing or running a PPC campaign on Adwords.

3. Think about who you want to sell to. When you know your target audience you can also decide what type of social marketing strategy to follow.

So does this post open up a lot of To-Do items for you? It should! But, you should also be excited if you’re looking into either your first niche or considering a new target niche. Why? Because you could, if you go about it the right way, make a lot of money with affiliate marketing.

Have a most outstanding day.

Hi Sean,

Research is the key to finding a great niche. Google Insights for Search is one of my favorite tools for getting detailed information on potential niches.

One of my main problems is choosing the correct affiliate product to go with it. How long should I try a product before I give up and try another one?

Hi Sean

Definitely need to do the research.

How would you find the most profitable keywords? Is there tools available to do this? Can you buy them? Surely if someone else has got them they must have found them somewhere.

Finding a niche is the key. There is so much information available to us it should be easy enough to learn about a subject we are interested in and turn it into a profitable business. Now to get my note pad out…

Choosing/finding a niche in an area or topic you are passionate about is a winning combination. If you just target a market where you think the money is more often than not you won’t have the drive to put in hard yards required to be sucessful. Stick to areas you either know about and love or want to know about and you will have increased your chances for success!
