Are You Using Blogging To Your Advantage?

BloggingBlog posts don’t just have to be small personal opinions on things. They can be long and detailed and full of insight if you so desire. They can also significantly help your online presence.

And long blog posts can give you another advantage as well. Let’s say you’ve written a really good article on a subject you frequently write about. You’ve sent it to a few article directories and you are pointing the resource box towards your main website.

Why not make even more out of that one article by using it as a blog post?

And better still, you could give anyone and everyone who reads it permission to put it on their website or blog. They might link to it anyway, but why not let them copy and paste it over with a backlink to your site?

Fresh Content For Other Sites

People are forever looking for fresh new content to put on their own sites, and if you actually say to someone, ‘Hey look, I’ve got a great piece here you can use wherever you like – just make sure the contact details at the bottom stay the same…’, that’s really persuasive. It’s steering them carefully towards doing exactly what you want them to – which is to stick your nice long blog post on another site somewhere to give you even more exposure.

The internet is all about sharing, but even while some people might like to read and use your content elsewhere, they won’t ever get around to asking you if they can do so. If you give them permission up front you never know where your articles could end up.

If you’re pretty new to internet marketing you’ll still be looking for ways to promote yourself and start to make a name for yourself. Giving people permission to republish your blog posts is a great way to do just that. So why not start writing, posting and offering right now?

Have a most outstanding day.

I like the idea, but I am still getting a bit confused with the “duplicate content” issue. Google doesn’t like to find duplicated content. So what happens if someone re-publishes my article, how does Google know that is ok and what does it to their ranking???

I agree with you. I worry about the duplicate content issue as I don’t want anything to affect my site and rankings

Hi guys,

I’m concerned about this too. Maybe we need to find an answer for this.

If your article is the first one published online, you will not have duplicate content problems. If someone else republishes your article, they will be the ones with duplicate issues.

Thanks for clarifying that issues about duplicate content as that was also my thought whilst reading this post.

Hi Sean,

I’ve never thought of doing this and I’d be really interested in seeing the results. This is definitely something I’m going to do.

When I read “Are You Using Blogging To Your Advantage?” the first thing that came to mind was the “duplicate content” issue. However, I see Sean addresses that in a comment reply.

Do the search engines somehow flag the fact that you are the original poster of an article and then flag all others as duplicates? Is there ever a chance that the status might somehow change in the future?

If that status never changes then having others republish your article with backlinks to your site certainly could lead to increased traffic.

You have a blog and do frequent posts. Instead of adding the post to your blog submit it to an article directory.
Give people permission to take that article and copy it onto their blog making sure the contact details at the bottom stay the same.
With the contact details staying the same there is now a backlink from their blog to your blog.
If I am understanding that correctly there is no duplicate content issue by doing this. The duplicate content would come from them re-submitting to an article directory as their own/ or as is?

Hi Sean,
“If someone else republishes your article, they will be the ones with duplicate issues”
than wouldn’t these others who republish your article be the ones to be slapped by google?

We are being reminded all the time not to duplicate content, so does that only relate to our own articles? I am not clear on this now

What a great way to get more exposure and links to your site! If you are also able to include links in the text which gets forgetten about to clear when the person uses your article – fantastic!

Hi Sean
I am now beginning to use blogging to my advantage. Doing the exercise for the competition has kick started me to action and now the world is my oyster, or vegetable (as a vegetarian!)

It is so exciting that there are so many options for more exposure on the internet.

Thankyou for clearing up the issue on duplicate content.

The very first paragraph above is IT! Using a blog that is full of good insights, information and actionable tips will make people want to return. In IM fluff comments will serve nothing.

And giving permission for others to use it is a neat idea – great for links!
