How do you get blog comments approved on other blogs? A lot of people say that a great way to get great SEO results for more traffic and more visitors (and consequently, more sales) is to comment on other blogs.  Because this idea has caught on, if you’re a blog owner you’re undoubtedly aware that a lot of people are trying on this tactic with spammy ways. Askimet (a free WordPress plug in designed to catch spam) is kept pretty busy here at SeanSEO! If you want great results with your site or blog, social commenting is a great marketing strategy.

So if people are blocking comments to blogs, how do you get yours through? Here are some blog commentings tips.

Blog Commenting Do’s and Don’ts

1.  Don’t hire an unproven service company to do this for you. You might see low cost SEO services promising to get you 1000 blog backlinks but many of these services simply resort to spam which doesn’t do well for your website’s image and typically doesn’t work.

2. Do write carefully thought out and relevant comments to post on related blogs in your niche.

3. Don’t  put ‘click here for more information’ into your reply. If the owner of the blog you’re commenting on sees you’re obviously trying to lure away their readers your comment will get filed under ‘S’ for Spam!

4.  99% of the time, don’t add links to the comment. There’s a section in the comment form for your website’s link and that’ll suffice.

5. Do look for many sources above and beyond typical high ranking blogs.  Many blogs welcome conversations with people and every link counts to some degree.

6. Don’t underestimate the power of social media. Beyond commenting on blogs, consider using microblogging tools like Twitter, FriendFeed, Squidoo and Facebook to create links that point to your site.

Have a most outstanding day.

Hi Sean

Recently I have seen a increase of spam coming through to my site. I suppose it means it is being noticed more and more, but it is a royal pain.

Hi Sean,

I think the best way to get your comments approved is by genuinely responding to the post and writing something meaningful for the blogger. It’s important to be authentic and add genuine value to the site.

I think most people are pretty good at knowing who is there just for the backlink. If we want to network and build relationships with other bloggers, we have to have a genuine interest in what they’re writing about. Or, at least that is the way it is for me.

Hi Sean,

This is valuable advice……

“Don’t hire an unproven service company to do this for you. You might see low cost SEO services promising to get you 1000 blog backlinks but many of these services simply resort to spam which doesn’t do well for your website’s image and typically doesn’t work”

This happened to a friend of mine recently and she is having terrible trying to sort it out. At the time she suggested I also do the same, and if it wasn’t for your teachings I may have made the same mistake. I tried to steer her in the right direction (to join your Forum) but because she has been in the business for a long time, she thought she knew best.

Thanks for this info, Sean.

To add to the discussion, depending on the site I’d imagine some links on comments would have the nofollow tag attributed these days.. I think Twitter is the same.

However even so, if it’s still bringing in visitors (and hopefully customers) then it is definitely still worth it even if they don’t add to your inbound link weighting!

Hi Sean,
I was a little off topic in the previous comment. It is more to do with article directories that my friend came into difficulty with.

I have learned the value of receiving a worthy comment on a blog and would like to repeat the guidelines received by our YOTA friend, Year Of The Dove: “If your comment is adding value to the other persons blog with ethics, honesty and integrity then you are doing a worthwhile comment for them.

Whether you are knowledgeable or not about the topic is fine as the reason we go to people’s site is to learn something new. To thank the author and allow them to know what you have learnt or what has benefited you personally is a good comment. We all like a pat on the back for efforts well utilized.

A question you can ask yourself also is – Would I like the comment on my own personal blog? If the answer is yes, then press the submit button” End Of Quote. Thanks Dove.

I am new to blogging but already have got spammy comments on a site that isnt really doing anything as yet. I would hate to think what a popular blog has to put up with! Again it comes down to being genuine with people and they will respond with the same respect.
