What a timely read as I am involved in a fantastic SEO contest - which finishes tomorrow! I really hope that the person who is running the contest gets good SEO from it while the participants value the education they are receiving from the guru!

Hi Renee and Cemil,

Me too but I still think we could come up with some kind of competition that would benefit our business. I see quite a few bloggers getting people to submit blog posts to them and using them as guest posts.

The blogger chooses the winner according to who gets the most RTs. I think this is a great way of getting traffic and encouraging people to vote for their favourite post. I'm thinking of giving this a go after the competition is over.

Just checked out the article about SEO Competitions on Wikipedia and a resource article on Wired. An interesting history and description of tactics. The Wired article disclosed the winning tactic that won the second round of 2004 "nigritude ultramarine" competition by SearchGuild, considered to be the mother of all SEO competitions. The second round was won by Anil Dash by virtue of a single post on his blog in which he asked his readers to link from their own sites.

Now let's see. What could I give for the winner of an SEO Competition. Hmmm, maybe I could offer a signed virtual copy of a Grateful We're Not Dead CD that was never recorded and never released. :)

Same here Renee. Traffic would also be a big factor. I wouldn't want to have a comment competition and only have 5 or so people commenting...

I guess a commenting competition isn't a bad idea either for SEO, but I don't have enough posts online to do that yet ;)
