Online ReputationIf you’re an internet marketer, you may want to optimise your Online Reputation.

Some marketers create product brand recognition and some are looking to get their own name out so that they can be classified among the likes of successful entrepreneurs. If you’re authoring a book, this is an especially good idea.

If people want to know more about you before they buy a product from you, it’s a good idea to try to give them plenty of positive things to look at.

If you’re claiming to be an authority on a subject, you want to be sure that people can look you up and find supporting evidence of what you’re selling and your abilities.

Here are some tips for self promotion that can help you get indexed online in a positive way.

Your Online Reputation

Because there are so many ways to get found online, you need to be mindful of the things you say and do on websites because a prospective customer may stumble across it while they’re researching you.

Many customers will research an e-book author before they buy a book so if you’re writing your own information product, you’ll want to see what is out under your name on the search engines first. A comment to or about you or something said hastily by you in a forum or social marketing site could come back to haunt you.

Article Directories

Write articles for your website(s) and post them on article directories. These help your site and help your reputation because they establish you as an authority. Many of these sites list their authors with esteemed statuses such as “Expert Author”.

Utilise the profile section and bio on these sites to establish yourself as an expert and you’ll do a lot for your online image.

Profile Sites

Sites that offer online profiles such as LinkedIn get indexed in search engines and help you as well because you can put a resume / CV on a site like this and connect and network with others as well.

Social Marketing Sites

Sites like FriendFeed, Twitter, FaceBook, and others are featured high in search engines so take time to write a good profile / bio for yourself on these sites because people will find them and check out what you have to say as well as what others have to say about you, and your Online Reputation.

Blogs In Search Engines

Blogs do well in search engines. Do guest posts about your subject matter on decent ranking blogs if possible. Write a useful blog about your subject matter, even if it’s a free WordPress or Blogger blog and it could be found by potential customers looking for information about you.

As for guest posts, this is not a difficult thing to get done. Blog owners are often content hungry and will be willing to let you do a guest post on their blog plus they’ll typically let you put a backlink in the article which bodes well for your site’s search engine results. If you’re networking with others in your niche, consider sharing blog postings and writing positive blog reviews for each other.

Community Forums

Community forum profiles are often featured in search engine results. Carefully writing your profile and being mindful of the things you say online are a good idea because again, just about anything is searchable.

Online Reputation Tip

Stay on top of your Online Reputation. This can be done by reminding yourself once a week to Google yourself. Then, you can see what comes up on the first few pages of results. Also, you can have alerts sent to you as well.

If you have a Google account, Google Alerts can be set up to send you an e-mail every time your name is indexed in search engines. This is a good way to see what type of results your potential customers will see and what new information is available.

Have a most outstanding day.

Hi Sean,

I’m very conscious of this. I have one of those names that there aren’t a lot of, so practically anything with my name on it is me. So, I will take extra care to be cautious with my name.

Your lucky, I was amazed at how many other Jackie Stenhouse’s are out there. I even found one on a P & C committee at a school not that far from where I live.

Just like Jazz, I also have one of those names of whom there are not too many. I do like that! :) Hadn’t considered it in that light, till Jazz mentioned it. If my name were John Smith I guess it might be easier to “hide out”! lol I look after my visitors, supporters and buyers to the best of my ability thank goodness. Cheers, Thea

Hi Thea,

Imagine when we’re massively successful; we won’t need business cards. We’ll be able to tell people to just Google us and we’re the only ones they’re going to find. :)

Hi Sean,
Optimising our Online Reputation would certainly be something we should all make sure we do.I have googled a couple of times but never thought to keep googling, my own name often. I was surprised how many others do have the same name.

Hi Sean

Your post endorses the power of the written word.

People are slow to praise and quick to criticise so it is most important to always check what we write and to say things in a way that is not offensive.

Afterall, we are aiming to build on line relationships and a reputation that people would like to connect with.

This is very important information and a great reminder of how transparent we become through social media.

Thankyou

Blessings
Elly

Oustanding post Sean!

As a very new internet marketer, tips like these are simply gold.

Only just this week I have been thinking about what presence I have & will continue to have online as I progress with my internet marketing.

Optimizing your online reputation gives you a far greater chance of people trusting your word and potentially purchasing your products so it really makes sense to keep it clean & boost a positive reputation for yourself : )

Establishing yourself in a particular niche is paramount to your online reputation. I always look at what else people have done before buying a product.
I feel sorry for genuine people who sell really good products and really want to help other, who get slammed by people who may not have used the product properly and give bad reviews.
