If you want to succeed in internet marketing, making online friends can help you. Once you make online friends, it can get you some great results such as:

  • Get you new leads
  • Get you help in the social sphere
  • Help You sell more stuff
  • Get help with problems

Get new leads when you stay in touch in online water coolers or make friends with someone who’ll pass along helpful info.  This can also apply when you’re in a jam. Maybe you’ve got some online friends with technical skills that can talk you through that problem. Get help in the social sphere when you need a great article Digged or Stumble’d or want someone to write a helpful review or testimonial for you and sell more stuff because your online friends can help you do that by talking about you as the “Go-To Guy/Gal” in a particular area of expertise.

How Do You Make Online Friends?

The web can be a little bit cliquish but the cliques are not impenetrable. Here are five tips to help you get started:

  1. Find blogs in your niche and comment on them, blog roll them and post on your social networking sites how great they are. The website owners will take notice of you
  2. Be helpful in online community forums in your niche for newbies. You can find some great protegees who will happily promote you
  3. Sign up for all the social tools you can and befriend people who are either in your target audience or in your peer group (preferably BOTH if it’s suitable for that application)
  4. Do something philanthropic online and do a giveaway to get some attention.
  5. Join an entrepreneurial group. There are groups online dedicated to helping each other build their businesses. Some groups are available on group sites like Google, Yahoo and MSN and there are paid memberships sites such as StomperNet, Internet Entrepreneur Club or Universal Wealth Creation as well that help people and some even offer conventions.

Over time, a bit of socializing can bring you some profitable dividends and if you can find some friends in high places you can definitely make more of an impact online and become sought after as an online friend to others as well.

Have a most outstanding day.

Hi Sean,

I think it’s important to be an authentic member of the online community. I think you should be involved with people and projects that you genuinely have an interest in. As in real life, relationships aren’t all about getting.

I think we need to be actively involved in supporting our friends and their work. Any new relationships we build need to be genuine. We have to be prepared to do our share, even if it’s sometimes inconvenient for us. I really believe we have to honor our commitments.

Sean

It’s obvious that the more in participate and help others the better we will be.
I very keen to improve the reputation of internet marketers and by being involved everywhere it should help to weed out the less desirable element.

Hello Sean,

Make More Online Friends…. Yes Please!!! I have been asking to meet more like minded people, and love to connect with others. Never realised that there was so many wonderful people out there :)
Most remember the five hints, especially how to blog roll so that I can promote and learn from others. Also how to ask with problems that I have.
Cheers
Lisa

“Do something philanthropic online and do a giveaway to get some attention”. Like a $1000 prize for the most comments on one’s blogs?

Having friends is good. Having online friends that help get the word out about what I am doing – even better. And yes, the rule of life applies – give (first) and you shall be given :)

It is Sean Rasmussen’s fault that I started a face book page, a blog and learned to comment on social forums……and for that I give him a huge thank you!:)

Now a days I have fun and get to meet so many other people with common interests and the amount of information that is available on the internet is mind blowing!

Hi Sean

This is such a cool idea. I love to meet new people and you have outlined many great ways to do just that. I can see that I will be spending quite a bit of time forging new relationships all over the world. You just never know hwo you can help one another until you start communicationg.

I enjoy helping people where I can or finding ways to help them through other means if I can’t help directly. Just from our small YOTA Sydney group I have received a lot of helpful information when we meet and discuss our internet marketing questions, successes and dreams.

I thoroughly enjoy meeting new people online and have been busy doing it since the days of the old BBSes. I’ve made friendships that have lasted over the years. And now, with a developing interest in Internet Marketing I can easily see the advantages of having an extensive online base of friends to work with. Sean has presented five excellent tips on making online friends in this article. No matter what you do, be honest and forthcoming with the friends you develop online and the friendships will last for a long, long time.

Join and actively participate in an internet marketing competition. Not only do you make more online friends but you gain like-minded friends who are more than willing to work and contribute towards a common target.
