If you haven’t discovered LinkedIn yet, you could be missing out on some serious networking opportunities.  In terms  of self-promotion, online branding, and networking this is an awesome tool with huge potential.

This tool allows you to do numerous things including:

  • Create a professional looking business profile
  • Connect with previous contacts
  • Connect and network with new contacts
  • Integrate certain applications (such as RSS feed in your WordPress blogs) into your profile which can help you get more traffic to your websites
  • And more

The site enables users to endorse and recommend other people on the site as well as discuss projects, ask questions, microblog and more. It has a plethora of opportunities for making new connections and establishing yourself as a professional.  Your profile in LinkedIn can have some weight in search engines so in terms of branding yourself, it can be a very valuable tool because it might turn up on page one of Google results, for example, so if you create a strong profile and get recommendations and have plenty of connections this could elevate your online profile.

You can use this site to look through your e-mail address books and automatically connect you. You can list previous employers and connect with people who knew you in your previous life.  You might be surprised at the networking that happens on this site as well. People look for expertise requests as well as referrals to professional services.

Have a most outstanding day.

Hi Kieran,
Actually I discovered that as I was writing this post so it’s a fairly new feature.

Cheers

Oh good I thought I had been missing something. Having the RSS feed going in is going to be great.

Hi Sean,

I’ve been neglecting having a LinkedIn profile but it’s clearly something I should have. It’s on my to-do list! :)

As mentioned in the post, your LinkedIn profile could have a weighting in the search engines, but don’t overlook the internal search. When creating your profile, you should make sure you include relevent keywords and content so that anyone searching for a specific skill or service within LinkedIn will find you.

Hi Sean,
I have a profile on Linkedin although didn’t know many of the benefits it provides to members. Thanks David, for tips on attention to keywords.

Another free tool to use in the Internet Marketing business world. The benefits are never ending which is good news for me.
