7 Tips for Achieving a Diverse Internet Marketing Income

Diversity is essential in internet marketing. You need to develop a diverse set of marketing skills and you need a diverse set of income sources. In 5 SEO Musts for Internet Marketers, I covered 5 vital factors to consider for your SEO. Now, it’s time to look at ways to diversifying your income.Diverse Internet Marketing Income

Why diversify? Things move at the speed of light in the world of internet marketing. A great income source could suddenly vanish. The rules for a certain profit stream could suddenly change and impact the sales that you make and force you to change the way you do business.

Being proactive and smart about your internet marketing strategy will help you create a strategy that results in success and a reasonable level of financial security.

Internet Marketing Income Strategies

Here are 7 tips for achieving a diverse internet marketing income to help you safeguard your online success:

1. Read Industry News

Stay abreast of internet marketing, SEO, and social marketing news. This way you can be ready for changes and either jump on a bandwagon early or diversify a strategy before a stream of traffic goes away. When was the last time you stopped and did some industry research? If it’s been a while, slot some time into your calendar on a recurring basis.

2. Follow Some Mentors

Even if you’ve been doing this for five years, it never hurts to find a mentor. Find someone in your niche that’s more successful than you are so you can either take their advice or emulate some of their methods.

3. Don’t Put All Your Stock Into Google

There are many traffic sources to succeed with both via organic and paid search. Research and test different methods so that major search engine algorithm changes will do minimal damage to your income.

4. Read Your Traffic Reports

Did you read your reports last month? Do you know where the majority of your traffic comes from for your top income sources? If it’s from one or two sources, it’s time to diversify. Look at Google Analytics or whatever reporting you use to watch what’s going on with your traffic. You need to know whether your rates of traffic this month are better or worse. You should know if your conversion rates are climbing or dropping. You need to keep your finger on the pulse of every income source you have.

5. Manage Your Reputation

Ensure you know what’s being said about you or your brand online so you can do damage control and so you can reap the rewards of good opportunities when they arise.

6. Hunt For New Affiliate Opportunities

Is your niche (or niches) doing well for you? Is there a new product you can add to the mix or a new sub-niche you can work on fleshing out? Become a niche expert in every niche you work in so that you don’t miss out on opportunities to grow and diversify.

7. Don’t Get Too Comfortable

Complacency is dangerous in internet marketing. Even if you’ve found a niche that has become a great source of passive income it’s not guaranteed as a forever income so work to continually diversify and continually learn all you can about online success.

Internet marketing income and success typically isn’t evergreen. Deepening your marketing knowledge on a constant basis is necessary and is something you should embrace. The more you learn, the more you will earn.

  4. Hi Sean, my husband and I heard you speak yesterday and your story is awesome. As we drove home, my husband commented that our kids (12 and 13) would probably do better at affiliate marketing than we would … They have time, they are geeks, they “get” Facebook, twitter etc… So my question to you is, do you run seminars/courses/coaching for kids??

    • Hi Deb.
Thank for coming along on the weekend :)
This is something I have considered however don’t write off your own abilities to learn something new. You are as capable as your kids, if not more. You do after all have more life experience.

  5. Hi Sean:
I really enjoyed reading through your blog. I like your style and atitude. I have a great artical and set of videos on affiliat marketing. They are free and are full of great content. I would love to send them to you. If you like them perhaps you could use them on your blog.

  8. Hi Sean,
I like your point No.4, about reading your traffic reports.
I agree, the deeper one digs into a sites analytics (other than just visitors), the more information that can be gleened, to improve rankings, traffic sources & conversion.

    Thanks for sharing,
    Cade

  9. Traffic reports. “Did you check yours this month” – are you kidding??!

Traffic reports are the lifeblood of copywriting! Whatever you write, you need to be in touch with those who are reading your blogs. Finding out which search terms people are using to find my sites is the most exciting part of having a site! Why? Because they might have a different approach to your thinking which will spark a whole new series of pages and ideas!

  10. Hi Sean,

  11. I am a newbie and thinking of what great way to earn money online. I’m doing an affiliate marketing project as of the moment and just want to ask if making money with revenue sharing is just OK. Which is better, affiliate marketing or writing for revenue sharing sites?

  12. Complete and good article. I want to ask
Does Customer-oriented Web Site Content also affects the success of internet marketing? thanks..

  13. Hi Sean
This post really helps, just one question, where do we go to keep up with Industry news, is there one place or many and what would we be searching for? Google changes would be one, what other topics change quickly in the Internet marketing world?
    Kind regards
    Andrea
