What is one of the main activities you are always doing as the owner of an internet business, whether it’s large or small?
Put Yourself Out There
The answer is advertising and promoting. You are always trying to get people’s attention in some way. But how about just talking to people and getting yourself out there? How often do you do that?
If you are like most internet business people, you have probably forgotten how to actually just chat with people, whether it’s as a member of an internet forum or via a social networking site. And yet it is one of the best ways of getting yourself out there and getting your name known.
And the funny thing is, once you start doing it, you will find that you start getting approached for advice by other people. ‘Oh I checked out your website,’ they’ll say. ‘What can you tell me about…’ and on it goes.
Benefit From Just Talking
I have found this quite an interesting situation to be in. It’s amazing how just chatting with people – even offline, and even about things other than your internet business – can lead to all kinds of interesting situations. Before you know it, you will find that people you don’t know will start asking you about all kinds of things relating to your internet business, and you won’t even have to make an effort to start selling things to them, since they will already know you, trust you and be aware of your presence.
That’s not to say you shouldn’t still be advertising online, of course. But your internet business may well fare better if you combine advertising with simply chatting with people and getting along with them.
So start making a name for yourself today. Think about how you could raise your profile and your internet business will benefit just the same as you will.
Have a most outstanding day.

Hi Sean,
This is a really interesting point. When I interact with people in social media, most of the time I have it in the back of my head that I want them to visit my site. I’m thinking about business related possibilities.
I’m going to try just chatting more and worrying less about trying to advertise to them and see what happens.
Good point Sean
I am finding with my fan page it is just great interacting. The people seem to be very social. Funny that.
Hi Sean
I really enjoy talking to people and learning from them. I think it is important to listen to what people say, really listen, and then it is easy to understand where they are coming from.
I am naturally inquisitive and enjoy swapping stories and ideas and having a good laugh. Building rapport with people and remembering what they tell you will really enhance your relationships.
I like it when I walk into a store that I have only been in a couple of times and someone asks me a question in relation to my previous visit like “How did your daughter like the ipod you bought her?” I think that is very special that they remember you.
Hi Sean
Not only is chatting with others online good for your Internet Business, it can be a great way to help build your confidence in talking to people you don’t know.
For me personally it is something that has helped me in all aspects of communication.
Instead of advertising alone, try talking, or singing or whatever.
Always try to sneak something about your blogs and websites into conversations. And it’s especially easy to do when someone asks what you’ve been up to.
Don’t be afraid to hand out your business card or personal card with your email address and website url.
There are many ways that you can spread the word during conversations. Use them.
Communitcation is the key and people are more willing to start talking with you and interacting with what you have to offer if you just chat and give them information about your niche, If you are trying to constantly sell – what a turn off!
