Are You Promoting Your Blog As Much As You Could Be?

What are you doing when it comes to promoting your blog? Are you recording every post you make in all the social bookmarking sites you can find? Are you pinging it every time you update it in some way? How about your website – do you link to it and mention it on more than one page?

Who Is Promoting Your Site?

Self PromotionA lot of internet marketers do everything they can to spread the word about their website, but when it comes to promoting their blog things can go slightly awry. Some of them seem to leave the promoting to other people, hoping that every visitor who finds them will tell everyone else and send waves of traffic flowing in their direction.

Real life is not so wonderful of course. You should be promoting your blog by shouting from every rooftop you can find. If you have business cards make sure your blog URL is printed on them. If you fancy the idea of one of those neat metal strips on the outside of your car, boasting your web address and an eye catching quote from your blog, why not splash the cash and get one made up?

Blog Self Promotion – Every Little Bit Helps

Sometimes all it takes to be promoting your blog in a way that will get you noticed is to do it differently from everyone else. Try printing up some slips of paper on your computer with a cryptic message or tantalising question that leaves people wanting to know more. Add your URL and stick those bits of paper wherever you can think of that’s relevant.

If you write about internet marketing, stick a piece of paper in every internet marketing book you can find at your local library. Get creative. Be different. It’s what will get you found when you are actively promoting your blog.

Have a most outstanding day.

Hi Sean,

Initially I didn’t spend enough time promoting my blog. I spent probably 90% of my time researching and writing my posts. Yes, I know, that’s way too much time. :)

Now, I know that there’s no point writing great posts that practically no-one will get to read because I am spending virtually no time promoting my site. So, I’m really trying to make promoting my site the priority and I am starting to see some improvement in my stats.

I’m going to have to see if I can come up with some creative ways to promote my blog offline. :)

Jazz

You could look at having your friends help you as well. Things like Facebook Fan Pages would help. It can be setup to bring the feed of your posts in. If you are very knowledgeable on your niche you can be having some great interaction with your fans and if they like what you have to offer they will pass onto their friends.
Since I setup my fan pages the fans have been growing at an alarming rate. A lot faster than I expected. Along with that an opportunity has presented itself. That’s the power of social media

Wow, that sounds good Gee. I have hesitated to put up an fan page yet as I am not sure if I have enough to “say” – but it sounds like I need to give it a go. Thanks for that insight into yours.

Hi Gee,

That’s great news. I think you are in a really fantastic niche and it’s a topic that most people love. I’ll think about it. :)

I didn’t think about a lot of “offline” advertising for my blog yet, but I like the idea. I will give it a try next time at the library – thanks for that idea :)

At first I was rather shy about promoting my blog as I was not sure about the content that I was providing. After a few months and many comments, I believe that the content that I am providing is really helpful and useful to many. Now I am more than happy to promote my blog and any arena – it may not be for everyone, but those that are looking for what I am talking about are more then happy to take a look.

I haven’t been promoting my blogs as well as I could be. Most of my time over the last year was taken up dealing with illnesses and deaths of the matriarchs of the two families. However, now the time has come again to get involved as I’m doing with the Learn and Earn competition.

So from now on, as I write and publish, I’ll be dropping by one of the Social Bookmark aggregation sites to ensure that the links to the articles get spread around.

And I do like the idea of inserting little notes in relevant books in the public library. :)

Hi Don,

I’m very sorry to hear you’ve been having such a tough time over the last twelve months. It’s great to see you’re starting to get involved again. One of the great things about the Learn and Earn Competition is that you can network and build relationships with people who will submit and share your posts throughout the social media sites.

There’s nothing better than having a group of like-minded people working together to help each other achieve their online goals. :)

Hi Sean

I always like creative ideas and there are some good ones here. I will definitely use some of these when I get my blog up and running properly.

I think it is important to have offline advertising as not everyone sits on the computer all day like some of us do and I have always been intrigued when someone advertises their URL on their car. Usually I write it down and check it when I get home because I am inquisitive. I look forward to getting really creative with this information.

Thankyou

It is quite easy to get caught up in linking here and there and here and letting yourself think it’s going to do wonders.

Well I didn’t go quite that far in my thinking but see I do have to be good at promoting my blog as much as I can without being splogging or spamming like it’s mentioned in the other posts.

I do kind of attach it to myself and even though I don’t mention it directly usually make sure it is visible.

Hi Sean,
I like the idea about putting little notes in library books, but zi will go one further and make some bookmarks to put in them that way they will have a usefull object and the information they will see each time they open the book ;-)

Am I promoting my blog as much as I can be? Real short answer to that one is NO.

I have some action steps that are on my action list as result of learning about what to do with my blog. The only promoting to date has really been word of mouth and tweeting my posts but I have other things noted on my action list that I can see will work a bit more time effectively than word of mouth plus potentially spread further.

I like that idea of sticking a piece of paper in the books at the library. Whoever would have thought of that sitting on the computer all day lol. Now that is thinking outside the square! Certainly will be promoting on my car once I have established my site enough. Already had that one on my to do list :-)

There are so many places you can go to submit your blog (and you have given us some great ideas in this post, as well as others). Im making it a part of my weekly routine to spend time promoting my blog – as Jazz earlier – no point writing fantastic content if no one is going to read it.

Hi Sean
This is the second time I have read this article and now I am thinking more creatively after reading nearly 1400 articles in the past 6.5 weeks.
I like the idea about the library books that you mentioned and I can think of many ways to expand out from that.
I know a few IT people, some that have retail outlets so I am now writing up a list of very creative ways to market myself offline.
Thank you
