Finding a niche to profit from online isn’t difficult in terms of finding available options. If you look, you’ll see all sorts of subjects that are paying high profits. Some of the popular ones include health, technology, weight loss, hobbies and marketing. If you haven’t yet decided which subject you want to dabble in for blogging or affiliate marketing, here are a few tricks and tips:
Choosing Your Niche
Are you passionate about a subject? Is there something you could endlessly learn about? If so, this might be a good niche for you because the more time you spend researching, learning and developing a niche the better your chances of attaining success and fulfillment.
Look at what’s out there. There are countless lists available talking about the most profitable niches. Read up on them and drill down until you pick a favourite.
Look at free keyword search tools and see what you find in the news, on sites like Technorati which will make the tags for the most popular comments the biggest, Google Trends and Alexa which will give you a good inclindation of what people want to know about.
After you’ve decided on a starting point, you’ll find loads of information through websites and blogs and to get information delivered right to your e-mail box, consider using a tool like Google Alerts to send you messages about new information in that niche. We’ll talk some more about Google Alerts tomorrow.
Have a most outstanding day.

If anything, I am a technophobic, just getting into this computer age. I am learning fast and having fun.
I want to know more about internet marketing, blogging etc.
I guess that tips are hard to give, it’s more about finding where I am at that is important.
Having said that, are there any tips that you can give to a grey haired dreamer, (proud of that) with a vivid imagination. I have found that the only thing that makes money is imagination. Love what you have to say. Hope to see more.
Signed with love and respect.
Bill Coulter.
LOL. I’m getting a few grey hairs myself. I think it comes with the territory of having a family. Oops! Did I say that?
I’m coaching a group of people this year, for 12 months, about internet marketing. We call ourselves SR Elite. They are all students of the YOTA book. If you have read it (the book), you will find a lot of tips that will help you.
Bill,
There are some great e-books that can help you (like YOTA) as well as just reading everything you can get your hands on online. Start with a blog, pick a niche you’re passionate about go from there!
Best of luck and please come back and tell us what you’ve been up to so that we can visit you online!
Cheers,
Dana
Hi Sean,
When I’m choosing a niche, I tend to stick to things that I am passionate about. Occasionally I will choose a niche if it’s something that I’m really interested in and want to learn a whole lot more about the topic.
My favorite tools to help me research potential niches are the Google Wonder Wheel and Google Insights for Search. Both of these can give me a lot of information but of course, I use the Google Adwords tool to check the numbers.
I love to learn – I think the world is totally exciting. Writing interesting posts about that feels a bit harder
. I also find it challenging to monetize on what I love, but that’s probably because I am still in the early stages
Renee, I used to think that my absolute passion was too ‘out there’ to make money from as I had all these ideas but I have come to realise it was the way I was looking at it.
Brainstorming and mindmapping are wonderful tools to use to unearth possibilities. What could be good is to share your passion with all your buddies in the forum and let us all come up with ideas on how you can monetise your passion. We may have ideas you have not considered yet.
I for one would love to do that being an ideas person.
Yes Renee I think it will take a while before we will really feel comfortable but once we get to that point we will be unstoppable.
Hi Renee and Gee,
I think we’re unstoppable now. It’s only a matter of time before we have the success we want.
yes we are on a roll.
I would suggest you look at a fan page if you can give the time to it
Gee and Jazz
I agree, we are all defiantly on a roll and we are picking up so much information as we go that we are all unstoppable.
Finding profitable niches for things I’m passionate about has always been my weak spot. Maybe I just don’t like the same things most people do.
But the tools mentioned in th article are extremely useful in helping you make your choice.
Another one worth mentioning, of course, is Market Samurai. And I think there is a free or trial version of it. It is cross-platform because it runs under Adobe Air.
I think, like Don. that picking the right niche is one of my main issues. I mean there are some very esoteric ones that I can think of – but hardly monetizable.
Getting one in affiliate marketing is THE challenge and a hurdle I have trouble jumping over. However, this article on finding a profitable niche has got me thinking … and I need to now test some of the tips out.
I love technology. I love learning about it. Technorati sounds like a great spot for me to check out.
Hi Sean
I have my niches picked out and now I need at look at what angle to market them from so they will give me a good ROI.
This article is very helpful and I will definitely look at Alexa and google trends to see what people want to know about in those niche area. Maybe I can create micro niches that are still profitable and can sit inside the niches. No harm in testing.
Thanks for this great information, finding the right niche to work on is so important. Looking forward to reading about Google Alerts.
Google Trends and Alexa are new to me and I have enjoyed learning more about them. I already make good use of google alerts. I haven’t looked at technorati as yet but it is on my to do list
I never understand articles which are claiming people don’t have ideas. You just need to sit down for 5 minutes and start mind mapping and surely it comes out like a waterfall. Maybe I don’t understand as I have too many ideas which I want to harness and not enough time! Keyword Tools are invaluable!
But, it must be a problem and targeting highly lucrative niches is a good place to start – even though I would think that competition would be high.
Sean 3rd paragraph down from Choosing Your Niche: Lookat free keyword
Should be ‘Look at’
Thanks for pointing that out Elly, all fixed
