Taking Advantage of Seasonal Website Traffic

Seasonal TrafficAre you taking advantage of seasonal keywords and their ability to drive well directed traffic throughout various times of the year? If not, then read on to gain some valuable tips regarding increasing your Seasonal Traffic based on search habits of the majority of consumers.

Your website might enjoy a nice, steady stream of traffic throughout the year. But if you are not taking advantage of seasonal spikes that could result in increased sales of your product or service, then you are missing out.

How Seasonal Keywords Can Drive Website Traffic

No doubt your web pages contain text that includes the most common and valuable keywords relevant to your business. Whilst this is always a good, key concept to remember when developing your e-commerce concern, by updating your content throughout the year you can realise even greater Website Traffic and increased profitability.

Most people can easily think of the most common holidays and the associated search terms consumers will use, such as “Christmas gifts” or “Easter bonnet”. But have you considered some of the less obvious opportunities? Take a look at the following examples for some great ideas to further monetise your website.

Pop Culture

Take a moment and think over some of the major events that occurred in the last week, whether in the local or national news, or in the pages of a celebrity gossip rag. Did the year’s hottest musical star get caught in a compromising situation? Did the price of fuel rise yet again? Either of these stories could possibly help your online business achieve a higher rate of Website Traffic.

For instance, if you sell an item like nightgowns, tie in the latest celebrity debacle, i.e. a headline like “Mr. X’s girlfriend wears nothing but our brand of lingerie”. Or perhaps you offer a service that helps consumers consolidate their debt.

Take a cue from the newspaper headlines and include a header on your web page which might state something like “Let us help you combat rising petrol prices”. Capitalise on the latest catch phrases or news events whenever possible.

Use Calendar Dates to Determine Keywords

Seasonal KeywordsEven if your business isn’t directly involved in annual or regular events, use your knowledge of how people search and what they search for to result in gains for your organisation.

Think in terms of such highly publicised events as an election for political office. Even if your product or service has nothing to do with politics per se, be aware that many internet surfers will be searching for a particular candidate’s name or the topic of a political platform.

So, if you offer a product like golf balls, for example, you could tie it in with a web page entitled “Candidate X hits a hole in one on the campaign trail with our golf balls and so can you”. The same concept can be used for tax time, or the beginning of summer (when most families plan their holiday), or even when a full moon will be observed.

Best Practices

In order to be effective, you must plan to change your text with appropriate keywords in a timely fashion. Post your new content in conjunction with the change of the season or within a month of a major event, but also remember to delete seasonal keywords after the fact.

If you do not have time to change your website with every event or holiday, pick and choose the ones that will earn the most payback for you and your business. Florists should never miss the opportunity to capitalise on Valentine’s Day or Mother’s Day. Include such terms as “romantic gift”, “token of love”, or “red roses” to ensure that those searching for Valentine’s presents will find your site. Consider, also, including free articles which outline ways to plan a romantic night or a menu for a special meal. Such value-added content will draw traffic and may result in additional sales.

Seasonal Website Traffic and calendar-based keywords can help your e-commerce site make a profit long after the event or date has passed. The more times you can change your text to accommodate seasonal shifts, the better you will be now and for many months, or even years, to come since search engines often use archived data. Use it to the advantage of your business.

Have a most outstanding day.

I had never thought of this. It sounds like a great way to generate more visitors. Very original and I cant see why it wouldn’t work. Thanks for the tip Sean.

Two Thumbs Up!!!

Great ideas. April Fool’s Day is around the corner… so it would pay to write a blog on that. But “April Fool’s Day” would be competitive – must find a phrase that would be at the half way point to have a good shot at it!

I hadn’t thought about the seasons. Seems logical though.

I’ll have to get to and start thinking about some of those

Hi Sean,

I had started to think along these lines but I’m yet to take action. It’s so frustrating. I keep learning all these great things but there never seems to be enough time to do all of them.

I think I’m going to have to build some time into my routine to just implement new things. I’ve seen how successful this type of thing can be through your Melbourne Cup Winner post. It will really work. I just need to do it.

Hi Sean

I really like this article, aren’t you clever for creating such wonderful promotion ideas. I can see how this will work.

Using these ideas will help us to make our products more ‘up to the minute’ and we can be very flexible with the way we present them. For instance, if I was selling Unisex Bathrobes, I could adapt my advertising to sell them for Mother’s day, Father’s Day, Christmas, Easter, Australia day weekends, holiday season, Winter time etc. and I am sure I could come up with some novelty campaigns. Good Thinking Sean!
