There are a lot of things in internet marketing that you can cut corners with when you pay instead of taking the long way to do something. Traffic is one such thing. But is it a good idea to pay for website traffic? Not usually. Let’s look at why it’s better to get traffic naturally and what you can do to increase your traffic levels so that you get the right type of traffic.
Buying Website Traffic can get a lot of traffic to your site quickly and of that traffic, some people might buy something or earn you money for page impressions, depending on the type of monetization strategy you’re using. Some of them may bookmark your page and send more traffic your way. There are a lot of ways to buy traffic but not all of them will work.
Google Adwords Campaigns
Pay per click campaigns such as through Google Adwords can be a good way to pay for traffic if you’ve got a solid product and a good niche. Your payment for advertising for particular keyword searches can bring about the right type of Website Traffic if you bid on the right keywords and use the right type of sales message to get people to get to your site.
This can be expensive but you have the ability to limit your budget and you also have the ability to measure your success so you can tweak your ads and your ad frequency as well.
What About Incentivized Traffic?
Using incentivized traffic to make money online is a bit like throwing a bunch of stuff at a wall and hoping at least something will stick. The con side is that it will cost money and you might have few or no conversions.
When you deal with paid traffic and you’re not sure if that website traffic will include people in your target demographic, there can be little chance of earning money from it. A lot of those people are clicking for points or pennies and aren’t in a buying position.
Attracting people with the wrong ads is also not going to do much. What you need to do is to use the right keywords and the right enticing advertisement so that you get truly interested people to click and work on pre-selling them before they even land on your page.
Getting Traffic Naturally
Getting Website Traffic naturally through organic means is the best option because if you do it well, the traffic that will naturally visit your site will be more likely to help you actually earn something.
With organic search engine optimisation you’re optimizing for people who are potentially interested in what you’re offering which increases the chance of people actually buying something. This differs from paid traffic because in many cases, people are already ready to buy so you’re going to benefit if you’re halfway to a sale before they land on your page.
There are a lot of ways to pay for potential traffic but the best way to get the right type of traffic is to work on your site’s SEO friendliness and continuously learn as much as you can about effective online marketing techniques and about SEO.
An important thing is to do something every single day to work toward enhancing your site’s SEO. Just because you start to get traffic and get good conversions from your site visitors, don’t get complacent.
The sites that continue to rank well and make money, are sites that are continuously optimized for natural targeted traffic.

I’ll be sticking with SEO for a while I think. Just need to put all the strategies in place
Hi Sean,
Pay per click is something I thinking of doing. I’m still researching and learning how it works. SEO is something I’m constantly trying to improve on. Getting good volumes of targeted traffic is a daily work in progress.
I can’t wait until I can get 2000 visitors to my site in one day.
SEO is something we Internet Marketers will be working on ad infinitum if we are wanting to attract traffic to our sites on a regular basis.
I have read a lot about PPC campaigns and would consider doing one when I feel confident in myself to know what I am doing and that I am getting enough traffic to my blog to get started with one. Is this the best way to go?
It’s definitely a good way to go Elly. Until you have the confidence, knowledge and time to set up a PPC campaign, it’s a good idea to focus on your site and SEO etc.
