HubPages.com is another free and effective tool in the internet marketing arsenal. Hubs are a great tool for many purposes including: SEO, making money, building brand recognition, article marketing without a website, and more.
The search engines seem to have a fondness for this site at the time this article was written and it can be used to help you build your business.
Anyone with a free account can make a HubPage and as it helps you build SEO and your brand, it can earn you money through Google Adsense and other programs as well.
HubPages are built by modules, much like Squidoo lenses, so you can dress them up and customise them. They are very easy to put together. If you start off with a great article and then add pictures and resources, you can make a fantastic HubPage.
Building A Great HubPage
Building a great Hubpage requires that you follow a few key rules. Here they are:
Make Friends On Hubpages
You can become ‘fans’ of other HubPage authors and vote on hubs. Like any social networking community, this can help you get more exposure and more out of the tool. Hubs with plenty of votes get more exposure in the community and because your votes could result in returned votes for your Hubs, this is a good thing!
When someone chooses to befriend you on this site, they see your latest hubs when they log in and get e-mail notification of newly published hubs so they can become frequent viewers of your pages! Visiting other hubs and commenting can help bring other ‘hubbers’ to your hubs!
Make Use Of Your Profile Page
People who read your Hubs will check out your profile to learn more about you and may click through to links you post in your profile.
Hubpages Widget
Make use of your Hubpages widget (http://hubpages.com/yourusername/widget) on your other sites to draw traffic to your hubs. If people like you they could even display your HubPages widget with direct links to your articles on their site!
Linking
Link to your Hubpages from other sites. Article directories, for instance that don’t let you link to affiliate pages can use HubPages that contain affiliate links. Don’t forget to blogroll them, social bookmark them, and blog about the new hubs you create as well on your niche blogs.
Self Promotion
Don’t use any more than 2 self serving links. If possible, include an authority link that’s not self serving. Too much promotion may get your Hub deactivated. Adding an authority site (such as Wikipedia) could help you get better rankings in search engines and high quality and helpful hubs will get you optimum results.
Use Your RSS Feed
Don’t forget to use RSS feeds for your blog and article directory feeds in your HubPages. They dress up the page, don’t get you in trouble for too many self-serving links but they do self-serve because they provide more chances of readers clicking on your links to exit the page. Use a partial feed as a teaser and a reader might click to your site to find out more information.
Use Original Content
HubPages is a site that likes original content so don’t use this site for anything you’ve simply spun from another article. The search engine ranking results tend to be worth the effort of writing something original and valuable.

Another great resource Sean.
Overall are Hubpages similar to Squidoo on how they are setup?
Would you have to create fresh content as often as you would on a blog?
Hi Sean,
I like the sound of Hubpages. They sound a lot like Squidoo which means they’ll probably give me greater latitude with creativity. They sound easy to maintain and I can create another site to link to my main site and market my products in. Awesome!
Hubpages is effective and simple to use, get stuck into it Jazz.
Like Jazz, I only have a squidoo lens so I will definately be taking a look at hubpages. They sound like you can have a lot of fun creating them and with these simple rules to follow, hopefully will get more action on my website.
Hi Jackie,
I also like Hubpages because they’re another avenue to drive traffic to your main site. I think the more of these tiny sites that we have linking to our main site the better.
I’m trying to get a collection of lots of little sites so that I have as many opportunities to drive traffic to my main site as I can.
Hi Sean
I will be putting HubPages on the backburner for a while until I get my Squidoo up and rescusitated and get Digg up and running, which I am really looking forward to doing.
In addition to the above, I do like what HubPges has to offer and they would be good to link affiliate sites to, as well as Squidoo.
Thankyou
I’d highly recommend HubPages. I’ve been on there for 2 years now and it pays me like clockwork (through Adsense and Amazon commissions). The site itself gets good traffic and because it rewards original content it wouldn’t be as affected by Google’s recent algorithm.
