Are you trying to sell something online? If you are, you want traffic and you want that traffic to convert from visitor to paying customer. Whether you’re doing affiliate marketing, have your own product, or are making money via contextual advertising or a cost per action network, you’ll want to get website traffic.
Numbers aren’t everything, though. Conversion rates are! If you want to learn how to get website traffic that converts, here are some of the ways you can get that rate up.
If you sell 2 products for every 100 visitors, your rate is 2%. If you calculate your profit and cost of attracting a prospect, you can see that an increased conversion rate is a very good thing.
Get Website Traffic With Pay Per Click
Set up a pay per click campaign. Bid on words and phrases related to your niche. Research is going to help here. You want popular words without too much competition and you’ll want to watch that your budget allows you plenty of room for profit margin. Write ads that compel people to click and they’ll arrive on your website. Do it the right way and they’ll be primed to buy.
Look at the competition, look closely at your web copy, and learn all you can about your target demographic. Watch your budget carefully and learn all you can about optimising your PPC quality score, which will help you achieve best on-page placement for your adverts and help your cost per click remain lower than average.
Get Website Traffic With Organic SEO
Organic search engine optimisation tactics help you rank for specific words and phrases at the top of the search engines. By ranking for the right words and phrases, people who arrive on your site could have their credit card in hand. People trust Google’s organic results and if you can position yourself at the top of those results for the right words, you can increase your conversion rate.
Don’t make the mistake of keyword stuffing and do take the time to write great landing pages on your website. Test them against your conversion rate and continually tweak and split test to find a winning template that you can use again and again. The great thing about organic SEO is that it doesn’t cost money to get website traffic.
It may cost you time and resources to optimise your site but this cost is substantially lower than a PPC campaign. The return on your investment for organic SEO can be immeasurable!
Build Your Reputation To Increase Conversion
If your customers believe what you say, this will up your website traffic conversion rate, too. For you to be believable, you need to believe in what you’re saying. Make sure you come across as an authority and develop a good online reputation. That way, your visitors can quickly learn that they’re not being scammed by you and this, too, will “up” your rate of website traffic conversions.
Have a most outstanding day.

Hi Sean,
Thanks for the sound advice on how to get website traffic that converts.
I agree, taking the time to use good SEO techniques on your site may take a while to get some traction, but will pay handsome dividends over time, especially if your targeting the right words.
I’m also looking forward to using your suggestions with PPC campaigns to accelerate my results in the near future.
Cheers,
Cade
Hi Sean,
It’s one thing to get website traffic; it’s another to get traffic that converts to sales. This is where you really have to take the time to identify those ‘buying keywords’ that signal the customer is ready to actually purchase something.
As a beginner I really think it makes a lot of sense to learn to rank naturally for those phrases. Initially it’ll save you a lot of money and if you can understand how to get high organic rankings; you stand a much better chance of getting traffic to your site through PPC without losing your shirt.
I was a little worried there for a moment; until I read on, regarding Pay Per Click. I would like that on my affiliate page not on my page I’m selling. So phew!
I’m learning much about SEOs
Another superb article.
Hi Sean,
Your advise on how to get website traffic that converts is as usual spot on. It is not enough to just get traffic, it also has to have an acceptable conversion rate.
Hi Sean
I’m not at this stage yet but have made a start with setting up a blog. I do look forward to improving on it all the time.
Blogs are always a work in process Brenda, it’s great to hear you have started. Take your time and progress at a pace that suits you
I was shocked the first time someone sat down with me and showed me how to budget properly for a ppc campaign. I assumed you just needed to set a dollar amount for daily and monthly budget and that was it. I had no idea about working in the cost per click and cost per conversion. I also learnt that I needed a bigger budget than I had initally started with.
Good point Kerry-ann,
It’s easy not to treat Internet Marketing as a business when you first start and it is good to have experts around who can point us in the right direction. My husband and I also had the same shock early on in our CPC campaigns. Luckily my husband is more diligent than me when it comes to this side of Internet Marketing, so I can concentrate on other things.

Great advice on how to get website traffic that converts. I’m always working to improve my SEO and researching to get the right words and phrases to work with. Improving conversion rate is the goal.
Hello Sean,
Great tips on how to get website traffic that converts. I have not looked at using pay per click campaigns as yet.
I prefer to attract traffic with social media, but there will come a time when ppc will be needed for our new website ideas, so thanks for sharing on how to understand what ppc is all about, and the best way to convert traffic to sales.
Cheers
Lisa
Reputation really is the key. It is no different to in person though, if someone has a bad reputation how likely are you to buy off them or approach them? If someone is well known and established in the area without negative feedback I am much more likely to work with them.
Therefore building an online reputation which is good is no exception!
Getting website traffic that converts is the key.
There’s no point having traffic that isn’t qualified (ie: interested in your product).
I’d rather have less traffic but more targeted than the other way around.
In the end, it’s all about conversions.
Cath
Oh, and reputation as well……I totally agree with you Tegan.

I have been guilty of a kind of keyword ‘stuffing’ – being keen and enthusiastic to get ‘everybody’ to come to my site. Now that I’ve learned a bit more about SEO and other actions I have for my website then I should be able to get more website traffic.
However getting there is half the battle. The other half is building trust to allow the conversions to just flow.
Hi Sean,
Learning the technique’s of getting website traffic and then converting this to get even more traffic to your website, is an art. So thanks again for this summary for us.
I love the idea of getting traffic with organic SEO, it’s great- it doesn’t cost you any money!
I prefer to invest time in learning how to optimize my blog instead of setting PPC campaigns.
In addition, I think it makes you feel that you are in control of what your website dos on the web.
And yes,.. on line reputation is also very important !
Knowing how to get website traffic that converts is the key to being a successful Internet Marketer.
Visitors to your site are nice but what you really want is for them to leave some of their nice money behind. As you develop your online reputation as an ethical and honest marketer then you should find your conversions increasing as long as you can keep the traffic coming with your SEO skills.
Hi Sean,
Once I have a niche product that I’m confident with it will be much easier to take the information here in and apply it. Right now I can’t imagine how I’d get website traffic at all, let alone website traffic that converts.
The idea of getting website traffic with organic SEO is good. Building a reputation is a bit scary also. I’m hoping I don’t do anything wrong, or make mistakes that will tarnish my reputation and set me back with future plans for online selling.
If you initially work on SEO and social media marketing, I’m sure you will see some traffic starting to flow over time Jill. Once you get the hang of bringing in some form of traffic, you can then work on strategies for improving conversion
I really want to get my conversion rates higher. The Learn and Earn competition is a great example of my concersions – I think I had about 500 clicks to the site and about 5 people joined up – that’s 1%! It was also a good reminder that traffic from Twitter isn’t very good and doesn’t really convert as that is where I did most of my promotion as that is where I have built my list over the past year. I have learned that I need to diversify my traffic sources and build my reputation to make the conversions.
Thanks for the information on how to get traffic to your web site so that it converts.
I will need to do more towards getting SEO on my site and I plan to do that on an ongoing basis using a checklist that I will be making up over the next few days.
The best traffic is those who are searching for a product by name. Focus on getting buyers instead of visitors and you will convert like gangbusters
This blog is absolutely beautiful, it’s just what I needed. All this time I was thinking all I need is a website and traffic not realizing that the profit is in the conversions not the website visits. Thank you so much, this will really help me optimize my business even further. Thank you and have a blessed day kind sir.
