Free Tool of the Day: HubPages

free internet marketing toolsIf you’re interested in promoting a product or service online, you need all the free IM  tools you can get!  Today’s featured tool is HubPages.  Here’s what I like about this self-promotional and monetizing tool:

  1. It’s like a free article site except that you don’t have to give anyone the right to re-publish it elsewhere.  While other article directory sites can give you great backlinks, they can get you the duplicate content wrist slap because other sites are promoting your content.
  2. It has great SEO potential with the ability to put your RSS feeds, your links and tagged photos plus get you indexed in search engines for your targeted key phrases.
  3. You can earn money through ad sharing from HubPages via Google Adsense and other publishers as well as put various affiliate links in the pages.
  4. HubPages has a social aspect as well with the community that posts there which can help you get more exposure for your hub!

The more you have in your marketing arsenal, the better.  Tools like these can help you get noticed, get subscribers and make sales!

Have a most outstanding day.

Hey, thanks for the great post and for letting everyone know about the awesomness that is HubPages. The one thing that I would like to add is that if you are going to use HubPages as part of an overall SEO plan, PLEASE create content that is original and something that is a benefit to the HubPages community as a whole.

We’d love to have all of you join and become part of the community, we would just like to have everyone do it in a way that benefits everyone’s SEO in the long run.

If you ever need any other information on HubPages I would be happy to chat with you some more – feel free to shoot me an email anytime.

Hi Sean,

I haven’t used HubPages before but I keep reading in your posts that you think they’re a good idea. I get the sense that they’re very much like Squidoo. Is this right?

If they are similar to Squidoo and I’m already using this platform, would you suggest that I create some HubPages as well?

Jazz

I believe it is very similar to Squidoo

Maybe Sean could direct us to some information explaining it like he did with Squidoo

It’s amazing how mane free IM Tools there are online, but it can get a bit overwhelming as well. Especially as one needs to create original content for each and every one of these sites …

Therefore my question: would you recommend to concentrate on one of these tools first with a lot of articles, or spread them over different tools (like one article for each of the main article directories or 10 in just one directory)?

There is no right or wrong way Renee. One thing to consider is to not try and do too much at once, do what you can handle at your own pace. You may look at doing something like; choosing 5 services…. say hubpages, squidoo and 3 article directories for example. Publish one original article in each service to get started, then maybe focus on publishing more content in one service at a time after that to build reputation, backlinks etc.

Hi Sean,

Thanks for the great advice. It’s not easy fitting all these things in. I like your strategy of starting with 5 services and building from there. It beats trying to do too much and getting nothing done. :)

Looking at the date of this blog makes me feel way behind. I have heard of hubpages before but have never looked at them. I will take a look and open an account. Thanks for the advice you gave Renee as I feel sometimes there is just way too much to do so if I concentrate on 5 to begin with I will get my head around it.

Hi Sean,
I just went and had a look at HubPages. It does look similar to a Squidoo lens. Another thing to put on my to do list is to sign up with HubPages.

I will need to find a nice affiliate product and create a HubPage asap. ?

Hubpages is definitely something worthwhile checking out Jill. Just note that it is against the terms of service to set up a hubpage that is overly promotional. You can add affiliate links, just make sure the content is relevant to the affiliate product and original content. Always read the terms of service of any new site you want to use ;-)

That’s great advice – publishing on 5 different sites to start. I was thinking about what was the best strategy last night. And I wake up to see this, this morning!

I have been focusing on one site recently but I can see that it’s best not to put all your eggs in one basket.

The technical side to some of these article sites get me scratching my noodle though…

Hi Sean

Thankyou for all of this information. It was good of Ryan to pop in and extend an invitation to us too.

I feel it is very overwhelming . A bit like a little tiny tree in a hurricane! Too many social sites to choose from, however, it is great to know what is out there and have a choice.

For the time being I will build up a reputation on Twitter and Digg and Linkedin, get my blog firing away and monetised and start doing my LCM’s. I would rather have a manageable level of work and be more condensed than be over committed and spread thinly.

Hi Elly,
I started on hubpages before I knew of Sean, that is where I did my very first blogs I would have to go in and refresh everything in there now, but it was the start for me and I do look sometimes to show myself just how far I have come.

Here’s another tool I’ve not heard of before. I am feeling like I’ve been living in an isolated little world of my own with no contact from the outside world until now. Which is probably exactly how it’s been. I will definitely check out Hubpages also.

And excellent description of what can be accomplished with HubPages. Another task to be added to my ToDo list and a challenge to add into my Time Management system. I can see myself busy writing for the next few months or forever. :)
