Choosing Affiliate Marketing Programs – One Day At A Time

affiliate marketingThey say you shouldn’t put all your eggs in one basket but it’s also important that you don’t bite off more than you can chew too quickly. The idea of multiple streams of passive income is a great one but success won’t happen for a newbie straight away and definitely won’t happen if you blaze a trail down too many roads at a time.

When deciding to start your affiliate marketing career, it can be tempting to sign up for everything under the sun and go crazy.  The problem with this is that it’s the equivalent of trying to juggle with not enough hands and too many balls.  Instead, consider starting slow, perfecting your skills and then adding to the mix.

Affiliate Marketing: Fine Tune Your Skills

Concentrate your efforts on one program at a time until things are kind of on autopilot. You can always come back later and tweak or improve your efforts on a money making program but until you’re making money consistency on one program, don’t be tempted to start on something new. There are so many profitable niches and programs that it can be difficult to be patient but patience and focus will pay off.

Start off With Small Goals

If you want to sign up for five different programs, you might set small goals of trying to hit specific milestones with one program before adding another to the mix.  By learning the ropes and fine tuning your skills in one area, you can move forward confidently into a new revenue stream before long.

Have a most outstanding day.

Hi Sean,

I like the idea of concentrating on one affiliate program until it starts generating an income without a lot of input from me. But, what if the affiliate program I’ve chosen isn’t making any money yet? How long should I persevere?

How can I make sure that I’ve given the program the best chance of succeeding before I give up on it? Because, the problem might be with my approach and not the program. :)

Jazz

I think we need to decide where we are going to focus our attention on and then pull the information together from this blog to make a plan

Hi Gee,

I agree. There’s so much great information here if I can’t make some money soon I’ll feel like an idiot. I just need to apply some of Sean’s strategies.

Jazz. Don’t give up. I suggest you read my thread in the Forum titled Rubber Meets The Road

It might give you some inspiration

I would be persevering until it made money and then keep going.

Never give up Jazz, just change the way you do things until you start getting nibbles.

Good idea. Too many programs can get a bit confusing as it is then hard to decide which one to promote first. Once the first program is “taking of” there is still enough time to take on a second one.

I agree Renee.
I will be concentrating on one program to develop up the skill set to be able to be profitable and then look at if I want to spread it further.

As with all the other articles on this blog, the advice in this one make excellent sense.

Start with one affiliate marketing program and fine tune it. If you try to support too many programs at once you’ll be running around like a chicken with its head chopped off – even if you do have your calendar and todo list open all the time in a tab on your browser.

Start simple and grow.

Hi Sean

I totally agree with what you have said about starting with one program for all of the reasons you have given. Fine tuning my skills in one affiliate marketing program is my idea of sensible, and taking one day at a time is easy to live with.

I have been slow to get my blog up off the ground, but for me it has been a massive learning curve and I concentrated on learning to write content and developing my skills around Keywords (which still beguiles me). I am ready to get my blog ready for an affiliate product now.

Maybe I started all wrong…I had several and just eliminated the ones that didn’t “seem” to be working and followed the winners…whilst trying more, but it was always a juggling trick and a headache….focus focus focus

I think I might just print this post and add it to my inspiration wall :-) (just kidding) Excellent advice!

This is very wise advice Sean. It’s not so difficult to find one that might be worthwhile but it won’t be successful if you cannot generate the traffic. When I publish my new blog I am hoping with the learning I am doing on this course that success will eventually smile on me. :)

Hi Sean again very wise and relevant words. I’m in info overload at afraid to move at the moment, just overwhelmed. Even trying to get blog off the ground is harder than i imagined so I’ll take the advice on one affiliate program integrated at a time and go v slow. I can see how you get lost if you try to make a go of too many things at once!

Great advice. Learning something new makes you a headless chicken and you can start dabbling in too many things that just end up confusing you – and then your blog/website starts looking really confused as a reflection of where you are at.

It takes time to explore and learn how to use all the widgets and banners an affiliate can provide and finding the right product for your site.

Go slowly.
