Create Some New Blog Buzz With Guest Posts

in Blogging, Internet Marketing

Have you ever felt like you could use a break from writing for your blog? It’s not as if you’ve lost the passion for it or anything; you just think a change would do it good.

Well here is a solution that can pull in some more traffic as well as giving you some time off. Why not think about inviting someone to do some guest postings for you? This is also a great solution if you’re very busy or away for a week on vacation.

Where To Find A Guest Blogger

BlogFinding someone to do this isn’t actually as hard as you might think. The first step is to think about where you might find such a person. You will want to use someone who has already made a name for themselves in your particular niche, and maybe has done guest postings before.

Make your offer enticing by saying that you will include a permanent link back to their own site or blog in return for a couple of guest postings on yours. If you pick a niche blogging guest who has a successful and well established site already you will probably find that some of their traffic and following naturally comes over to your site to see what they’ve got to say for themselves in their guest postings.

Spice Up Your Blog

Guest postings can really spice up your blog, especially if you feel it’s gotten a bit stale. By introducing a new point of view into the mix you can make things more interesting for your existing visitors and readers, and attract new ones as well. If your blog is a good one, you can expect some of the fans of your guest blog poster will stay with you even when they return to their own site.

Always keep an eye out for people you could invite to say a few words. It could be the start of a fresh new era for your blog and their regular viewers could start subscribing to your blog as well.

Have a most outstanding day.

Hi Sean,
Am I a slow learner I’ve reading your gig for 6 months now. It’s just starting to come together, I think. I need to learn more, always.
Love what you have to say.
Hope to meet you one day. ( That’s a GOAL.)
I’m enjoying watching how you are putting this together.

Kind regards Bill

Hi Sean,

Guest posting is something I’ve started to really take an interest in lately. However, as my site is still a PR 0, I don’t feel like I have anything to offer someone. I feel like if they have already made a name for themselves in the niche, why would they do a guest post for me?

Okay, so I’ll give them a permanent link back to their site but how much will it be worth from my PR 0 site? Also, I’m probably not getting enough traffic to make it worth their while. Or, do you think I’m reading this wrong?

I have the same issue as Jazz – there is not that much on my blog (yet). Now would that be of interest for an established blogger? And does it make a difference when (at what stage) you have a guest blogger? Seems a little delicate to me …

Hi Renee,

I was thinking that if we built a relationship with them over time and maybe consistently dugg their articles or something. Maybe then they’d help us out.

Hi Renee and Jazz,
I did let someone put a couple of posts on my blog, they were obviously even greener than me, there was no SEO , no keywords and only links back to their site, so I had to fix it up
Not doing that again any time soon unless I know the person and their work.

The great thing Rita is that you had a go and learned from it. Now that you are sharing this experience with all of us, it has become good advice because we could have done the same thing and not considered that the guest had no education around SEO or keywords.

I agree with you girls. It still is early days for us.
I not sure when would a good time be.
Mind you we all know a well known marketer who may be interested.

I wouldn’t doubt the power of guest posting on a PR0 site guys.

If somebody asked me to guest post on their PR0 blog I would jump at it. I do have a certain criteria that would have to be met, however this would be a great opportunity to start to build a relationship with another blogger. Who knows what kind of traffic the site gets and who else could see your article and visit your blog , etc, etc. It’s a great way to get your name out there and build that authority status.

It’s a great idea. Possibly I will need to look for someone who has the same interests that I have and that I will blog about. I could invite them to talk about their line of expertise, on my blog. I’ll keep my eye out for such an opportunity.

Hey Sean,

While I can see the positive points of having a guest blogger, my mind keeps paralleling with TV shows when they start bring on big name stars for one off Guest appearances.

For the most part, TV shows will do this once they have been around for a couple of seasons, have got their story lines and characters established and have built a core audience. You get the feeling that while they don’t take any of these things for granted, they do feel that they can relax a little, and start to have fun with it.

Of course, the other reason for bringing in a guest star/blogger for a TV show (which I hope none of your readers will have to worry about) is when it just doesn’t seem to be getting off the ground, in the same kind of time period, and the producers feel the need to bring in someone that has a bit of recognition and can possibly attractive a wider audience.

There is one other reason TV shows bring on a guest star, but I don’t think that is likely to be appropriate or parallel with blogging. That’s when the guest star is passed their prime, and need to be exposed to a new generation of audience to help prop up or boost their sale-ability. As I said, I don’t think this reasoning would be that appropriate for blogging. My guess would be that ‘Old bloggers don’t die, they just find a different niche!’ *grin*

Just a thought!

Cheers,

Pete

Hi Sean

Guest Bloggers are a great idea… can you send some posts over to me by next week? (lol)
You may well be inundated by all of us Sean.

Down the track a bit, I would like to have guest bloggers in a slightly different way. I would like to conduct interviews with them as I feel that questioning someone in your “niche” area would create interest and would be easy to read in the question answer format.. what do you think?

Blessings
Elly

It’s a great idea, and one that many people use successfully Elly. If you can interview respected people in your field, it usually makes for high quality reading as it will answer a lot of your readers questions :-)

I would think that with the relationships being built up during the Learn And Earn competition that we’ll be seeing some guest blogging by bloggers whose names we recognize immediately.

One of the big advantages of such an competition is that it exposes you to other online personalities and their viewpoints so it is well worth keeping these people that you are meeting in mind as Guest Bloggers.

Just my thoughts.

That’s a really neat idea! And, it’s amazing how people do respond to such requests. In March I requested and got interviews with 5 top gardeners in the U.S. for my garden site (on MP3).

I am sure they would have also done a blog if I asked them. That’s got me thinking!

They say a change is as good as a holiday but at this point in my blogging career a guest blogger would be a little premature. Certainly is food for thought at a later time though.

I’ve noticed that you have had a few guest bloggers on some of your other sites. Do they expect payment? – or are they just happy for the backlink? (and wouldnt it be a better backlink for them if they just wrote an article for ezine instead of your blog?)

It would be great if you were able to persuade someone to be a guest blogger for your site though!

They will generally be happy with a backlink from the site Jayne, particularly if the site has a decent PageRank ;-)

The main difference between guest posting and publishing on an article directory is the traffic value. The site that you guest post for may already have a nice flow of traffic and regular readers, whereas a new article on a directory will generally have to make ground in rankings before getting a lot of traffic.

You are such a guru! It is great being able to ask the questions and get an answer. I still say that I am starting the Internet Marketing Journey as I have so much still to learn!
