If you’re not using video for marketing yet, it’s time to delve straight in! Sound daunting? It’s actually really quite simple to place videos on your website or blog and it can even be monetized through Google Adsense. Why should you dabble with video on your site? Here are two reasons:
1. Establishing your online presence
2. Interactivity sells
Establishing an Online Presence
Getting noticed online can be fun. People like to know who they’re buying from and if you present yourself well, you can make people more likely to buy from you.
Interactivity sells
People are tired of the same old same old. Doing something new and different on your site can help you stand apart in the crowd. If you’re selling something and you have competition, people might review your site and a few others before making a decision about where they’re going to buy that something. The site that stood apart from the rest has a better chance of being given a second look. You’ve spent all sorts of money and time on SEO, once you get them there, sell to them!
By putting a human component on the internet, you increase your chances of making customers that come back because they feel like they know and can count on you. How can you capitalise on this?
* Video blogging
* Video testimonials
* How-To Videos
* Entertainment
Dabbling in video can be fun and can definitely be useful to anyone in internet marketing.

That thought is really daunting. I will have to think about what I can do with Video that matches the post I am putting out as I don’t want to do something just to have a video out there … Then I rather take an existing one of someone else
Hi Renee,
Maybe we should start with some practice videos around the house. You know line up the kids and the neighbors and make them watch our videos until we get over it.
Jazz
You could get them to video you doing your commentating. We would find out how you do it.
Hi Sean,
I’m with Renee. I have to say that the thought of using videos for blogging or for showing how-to do stuff is really confronting. Then again, it’s something I think I would probably enjoy when I get over being ‘scared’.
I often read people’s blogs who use video blogging and I have to say I enjoy it. It gives me more of an idea of who they are and if I like the impression I pick up from them. It also makes a great change from just reading a standard post.
It can be quite daunting when you first start recording Jazz, the only tip I have is to practice. The more you do something, the more confident you will become.
I understand where you guys are ccming. I guess at some point we will have to get into it.
For now I will be concentrating in getting all the other strategies in place.
The other thing I have noticed is that sometimes videos show up quite highly on the Google results list. I’m not sure precisely how this works, but it seems that video marketing is not only a way to offer something different, but can also have an affect on search engine ranking.
Google loves Youtube content Tom, you will quite often see Youtube videos high up in the rankings. Optimising your videos for keyphrases will help with rankings.
I’ll have to work on getting over my stage fright. I have done video conferencing before, but I’ve never “starred” in my own video.
Glad to see that I am not alone in being hesitant about making vids! But I do need to get over it – even though I generally ignore them on promos etc – much preferring the written word – I also realise that I may not be typical and that others do prefer them.
I will loo into Sean’s bit on YouTube and see how I can get this element going.
Making a good video can be a daunting task for the newbie. My main pieces of advice are:
1. Keep that camera steady. Use a tripod.
2. Make sure the scene is well lit.
3. Make sure the camera is in focus.
4. Know what you’re going to say and do before you start. Have a storyboard and a script.
5. Don’t be afraid to do retakes.
6. Edit before you post.
Just a few tips on making something that looks professional.
Thanks for those hot tips there Don. Perhaps number 4 should be number one lol
Personally I have always been camera shy so this little gem of advice may have to be put into my ‘place to the side’ category for now. To clarify this means I will get to this but it will require time and a creative mindset on the day.There are ways around making videos informative and helpful without playing a staring role and that would be more my style when I venture down this path.
This is something which was suggested to me a few months ago to get good SEO and rank highly in Google for having done. However, I just havent done it as there have been way too many other things to do and as this is not an “in the face and my site will not function” one, it has just gone into the “it would be nice” pile.
I like the idea of doing pictures with a voice over for now!
I really enjoy working with video and it is going to be one of the key tools I will be using to market with. Next year I will be assisting in making films and I am sure I will learn a lot more.
I really like to watch videos on websites and youtube but did I read somewhere that having a video on your blog can slow the downloading speed?
I want to make lots of really funny videos that are also educational. I have a mile of ideas. Maybe you can star in one Jazz and get you over your shyness.
