Targeting Buyers Who Are Ready To Spend

When you are trying to make money on the internet, you might have varying strategies depending on the revenue-generating program you’re working at. Often, people work to get the click in a program like Google Adsense. Your job is to (without directly asking as that would be click fraud) convince people to click so you can make a few pennies to a few dollars a click. But when you’re in affiliate marketing, though, you want more than just a random click. You want to target interested buyers, preferably with a credit card in hand because when they buy a product you can earn a sizable commission.

How do you do that?

Targeting Interested Buyers

Two ways to get interested buyers on your site are:

1. Targeted Keywords

2. Solving a Problem

Targeted Keywords

If you’re trying to sell anti-spyware programs from your site, you’d be more successful if you choose phrases like, ‘get rid of spyware’ instead of ‘buy software online.’  Carefully research and consider your keyword strategy!

Solving a Problem

When buying your product will solve an immediate need, you might get more buyers. Creating a sense of urgency and writing compelling copy that will help the user believe they will get the answer to their problems can convert visitors to customers quickly.  In essence,  target the right customer and then sell them a solution.

Have a most outstanding day.

Hi Sean,

I’ve been trying to write posts where I use highly relevant keywords to help me get more targeted traffic. For instance, if I want the reader to buy something, I try to choose a keyword that reflects that. I’m still learning how to get this right.

But, even though I understand the concept behind having a solution for someone’s problem, it’s not something I really use. I think I could make better use of this tactic. I’m going to have to try it.

Making use of Yahoo Answers is another avenue

I like the idea to solve problems. And having a good product that does do that. I haven’t written any “compelling copy” , but I am sure that is something I can learn :)

Hi Sean

Getting the right Keywords is so important, and learning how to do this is not so easy. You have to know what words people would type in when they are looking for a product like yours (you would have to consider age, sex, demographics, gender etc).

I need to learn more about keywords and have been doing the Market Samurai training.

Writing copy is yet another skill that is very important to have. I am looking at getting coaching with someone very soon.

I like that differentiation in those KW examples ” get rid of …etc” rather than a direct approach of “buy software etc…” It’s a subtel difference, but has a lot more appeal as it points directly at a solution rather than suggest a purchase – yet with the same end.

It’s also a good way to enter them into the Google KW tool too.

Oh to find the time to go into all my keywords and see how I have phrased them

It’s the urgency which sucks me in most of the time when I am looking at buying something online. I start by looking around with KW’s – then something grabs me and bam I am looking for the credit card……so it makes sense then to translate this to my own website and marketing tactics.
