Say Thank You After Making An Online Sale

Thank You PageWhen someone buys something from you, a thank you page is a very good idea. Not only do you thank them for the Online Sale they’ve just given you but you can use the Thank You page for a number of other smart marketing activities.

You could do many things on that page including re-routing the buyer to another page of yours where they can:

Opt in to future communications from you.
Learn more about your other products.
Buy something else from you.

Don’t Underestimate The Power Of Cross Selling!

Once you’ve gotten someone in a buying mood, you can often up sell or cross sell them as well. That individual already believes that you’re credible enough to buy from once and so their open mindedness can be used as a great opportunity!

Once you make an Online Sale to someone, you’re going to have a good opportunity for a repeat sale. Even if it’s not today, you can sell to them in the future. The only way to do that effectively is to get permission to contact them again.

Squeeze Page Marketing

A lot of internet marketers focus on the squeeze page that squeezes information out of visitors before they try to leave a site by asking them in a pop-up window to subscribe to a newsletter. Another tactic is to offer them a discount, or free product if they buy or opt-in to a contact list.

What many fail to do is to ensure they can openly communicate with people who actually do buy something. A sale of something to someone does not equate to permission to market to them again in the future so don’t just assume that because you’ve made a ClickBank (or other type of) sale that captures an e-mail address, that you can then begin marketing to that person on a regular basis. It’s much wiser to have them manually opt in to something that they can actually opt out of if they decide to do so.

A lot of today’s online buyers are not new to purchasing products online and many of them have formed strong opinions about receiving e-mail without permission. If you don’t get explicit permission to communicate with a customer, they may not become a repeat customer.

A thank you page gives you an opportunity to thank someone for their Online Sale and to capture their permission to market to them in the future.

On a good Thank You page, you might find some or all of the following elements:

Confirmation that the transaction happened successfully.

A way to communicate if there were problems with the transaction (file not received, etc.) via e-mail or telephone number.

A receipt for the customer’s records.

Links the customer can choose from to learn more about what you sell or to buy more products.

A feedback survey that gives you valuable information about your demographic.

A list of other resources (these could be joint ventures, affiliate products, other sites of yours)

In the future, if you’re able to communicate with buyers, you could ask for feedback about what they bought from you and you could ask for testimonials as well. Beyond that, you can also talk to them about other products they may be interested in.

Have a most outstanding day.

Hi Sean,

I’m not sure if I’m getting this right. A Thank You page is something we write and link to the sales page. Is this right?

How do I generate a receipt for the customer?

Also, if I’m selling an affiliate product where the buyer gets taken to the businesses landing page, how can I use a Thank You page? Or, do they automatically get re-directed back to my site once the transaction is complete?

Hi Jazz,
I think you would generate a reciept through an autoresponder which would be set up to send to the buyer when they have paid for the item. Not sure about the mechanics but I’m sure there is a way.

Hi Jazz,

I guess when you are selling an affiliate product you depend on the Product company to do all that, as they do the after sales, you just provide the lead for them.

Once you sell your own product it is a matter of setting up all the auto responses and provide all the information and papers to the buyer.

I have an ebay store where I actually send a thankyou with the product which also has a few of my other items for sale. To say thank you after an online sale takes no effort on your part (once set up to do this automatically) yet it means a lot to the purchaser.

Saying thank you after a sale is a great way to demonstrate that you care about the customer, even after he/she has purchased. And that will keep them interested for future transactions.

I think that a squeeze page would be alright if it was advertising something really cool that the customer would find useful, and at a good price, but I would stop at one product.

As far as receipting goes I would have thought paypal would take care of that if we use Aweber. Is this correct
