If you want people to click your links and buy the stuff you’re selling, you want visiting your site to be a pleasant experience. Think like a real estate agent and go for some curb appeal to get people in the buying mood.
Here are some tips in terms of design that can help you up your conversion rate.
White Space
Does your site have sufficient white space around it? By that, I mean that if it’s all crowded and everything is densely piled on the page, it can be a turn off. Break up your text into smaller paragraphs and add some subheadings so people can quickly scan the page and something interesting will actually pop out.
Too Much Advertising?
How much is too much in terms of ads? It’s a good idea to experiment and there probably isn’t a right or wrong answer but if people are inundated, they might not know where to click. The adage of “Less is More” can often be true in terms of advertising.
Photos
A picture can speak a thousand words. If you want people to think money, maybe you should have a picture of dollar signs. If you want them to think financial freedom, a nice yacht in the background might work well. Besides, plain text can be…boring.
Have a look at some sites in your niche that are doing really well and see what makes them look good. Study their copy, look at their design and dabble a little. If you have regular visitors, it wouldn’t even hurt to poll them on what they like and don’t like about your site design.
Have a most outstanding day.

Hi Sean,
You have some really interesting ideas here. I think I do an okay job with formatting but I can always improve. I generally get someone else to look at my posts and see if my layout looks good. I think it helps to get an independent opinion.
I initially thought that this post was going to be about you…or was wondering if it was going to be about Music or just some more fantastic tips from Sean!
I had a look at your site today for the blog challenge and I really liked the layout – it is bookmarked for future ideas
(hope you don’t mind)
I have asked my fans for some feedback on the design so will see what they think. The posts I don’t have a problem with
Good idea, did you get feedback already? And what do you take as measurement that your posts are meeting expectations? Tks
It was about the design of the theme
Hi Sean
Great ideas that I can most certainly use on my blog. What I may think is appealing based on my preferences may be a real turn off for others.
Having a constant in place to measure ‘acceptable to stunning’ against is very helpful. It is good to build ambiance and atmosphere into your blog. I have visited some sites and gone WOW! so impressive. Mine is bland at the moment but I will keep this information to help me spruce it up. Thankyou
Hi Elly,
I understand that it’s important to please your readers to some extent. But, it’s your site. I think you should create it any way that you want. You should choose the style and colours and let your personality shine through.
It’s your blog; so it’s your rules. I think if you be authentically you on your blog; you’ll find people who like you and your blog. Besides, you have to work on your blog everyday so why not build it in a way that pleases you.
Some extremely valid tips on how to jazz up your site and make more sales. If I stumble on a site that is swamped with advertising and contains large blocks of text with little or no white space I normally don’t even pause to see what the site is about. And I find it amazing that such sites still exist, what with all the free information and tools available on the ‘net to facilitate the development of good looking sites.
Some sites are just too busy and everything is in your face and things are flashing and the wrong colours and you just want to get out of there, and as soon as you hit the back button or close the window altogether in the panic of retreat you think to yourself “What were they thinking!”
I really like uncluttered, white pages and find them so much more pleasant to interact with.
