Sell Your Own E-Product – Affiliates Or Not?

If you’re an affiliate who’s been making money online by selling other people’s products for a while, you might realise that there’s big money available if you can launch a successful product of your own. This isn’t an easy feat and there’s a great of time, effort and money involved in promoting your own product but if it’s something you’d like to do, there are many ways to go about it.  Today’s post looks at whether or not to sell your electronic product yourself or get help from other affiliates.

Sell  It Yourself

If you want to work hard and reap all the rewards, you can set up your own e-commerce site with a shopping cart and sell the product yourself. Whether you’re doing an e-book or a membership site, this is a doable solution but one that will require an investment of time, money and resources. You do get all the rewards but the journey will require a bit more of you because you’re on your own with every step of the journey.

Get Affiliates To Sell For You

Just as you’ve sold products and earned commission from publishers, you could decide to go this route for yourself and try to attract those interested in affiliate marketing. Hopefully you’ll get some old pros as well as some newbies!  You can list your product on a site like ClickBank or for a low fee through a site like E-Junkie and get affiliates to help you sell. While you share in the commission you’ve also got people putting efforts into selling for you.

It’s a win-win situation for you because you only pay commission on items sold.  If you’ve got a product that really sells it can run practically on autopilot for you. Other people pay money to get the word out for you through setting up websites, investing in search engine optimisation and through pay per click ad campaigns. While there is often a set-up fee for you to get going and commission is shared, this can provide a great return on investment that allows you to reach a wider audience.

Have a most outstanding day.

I appreciate your suggestions. We can expect more success in selling our own products when done in a systematic way, though it involves money, time, and tireless efforts. If you have all at your disposal, why not give a try?

Hi Sean,

You have some excellent advice here but it’s still a fair way off before I’ll want to consider doing this. When I do though, I’ll know exactly where to go for help. :)

I would like to in the future write an ebook about my expertise. At the moment I will be concentrating on getting all my systems in place before taking the plunge.

Hello Sean,

Selling my own eproduct, Affiliates or Not? Like the sound of that. I guess if the product is within a niche market and is selling well then setting it up to sell as an “affiliate” product makes sense. I guess it depends on how much you want to work at selling it by yourself, or expand and sell wider. A bit like a franchise shop from the first shop :)

Cheers
Lisa

Hi Sean

These are great ideas for selling a product in many different ways. I have produced an Ebook and am making an audio, video and workbook. I would be looking at a variety of ways of selling and promoting.

I would like to sell my own products as well as be an affiliate for products that I have used and loved. I can see that I can have lots of variety which is one of the great benefits of Internet Marketing

I like this article a whole lot
1. Because it makes sense
2. Because I like making my own e-books
3. Having your own products (e.g. e-books, vids or recordings) means your product is unique or at least your unique slant on something.
4. You can get affiliates to sell for you as well as promote it yourself
5. You can list it on Clickbank
6. A lot of it once set up is automated.

Now al I have to do is get 4 through 6 set up! LOL

The advice in this article is excellent but I feel I’m a long way from having any type of product of my own to sell. Not sure I’ll live long enough to accomplish that unless it’s my x-rated memoirs. :)

However, I guess I’d be inclined to work on ebooks as a product as there are some areas where I have significant expertise. I just don’t normally delve into those areas since I retired. Maybe it’s time to pull some old reports off the shelf, dust them off, pretty them up and see what I can do.

Surely doing a combination of selling it yourself and on an affiliate network wil give you the maximum exposure for selling your Ebook? (or is there a clause on Clickbank that they hold exclusive rights for your work?)

Whilst I have been learning affiliate marketing I have been wondering why more companies havent gone down this path and investing the advertising dollars in paying commissions to affiliate marketers who are doing the hard work for them!
