in Copywriting Tips

Making money with Google can take time and effort and there’s a twist you might not have already thought of. In terms of monetizing a website or blog with Google Adsense, you might already know that your content will determine the types of ads that come up.  But, did you know that your content will also have a large part in whether or not your visitors actually click those ads?

The Curiosity Factor in Online Advertising

Google Adsense moneyIf you write a blog post about how to build a house and you tell everything to the reader, there’s no reason to click, is there?

However, if you pique the right amount of curiosity in your copy and manage to pepper in some great keywords, you should get advertisements that directly relate to your customer’s interest so that they’ll click the ads to learn more.

Providing Value Without Revealing All Your Cards

In terms of copywriting tips for Google Adsense ad revenue, you want to give enough value to your visitor that they want to read more but don’t feel cheated like you’re simply telling them nothing. It’s tricky to strike the perfect balance between value and piqued interest but getting there can result in people clicking your advertisements and helping you make payout every month with Google.

Have a most outstanding day.

Hi Sean,

I’ve never thought about making use of Google Adsense in this way. But, if you can subtly encourage your readers to click to learn more information, why not? I probably couldn’t be that subtle right now, but I think I could learn to be.

Also, I read on someone’s blog recently that they thought Adsense is like unemployment benefits for bloggers. It’s not enough to live on but you won’t starve. I thought it was really funny. :)

Puh – I think that is a very interesting challenge. Write enough though readers like your post, but just so much so they hope to find more on one of the advertised pages. Hm. I will have to give it a try.

It definitely sounds like a delicate balance, Renee. But therein lies the challenge. People tend to be pretty on guard against a strong sell so I would think that the content of the post needs to link naturally to the sales pages – so readers don’t feel misled.

Now that is an interesting – write just enough to pique the readers interest and think they are not wasting their time reading your blog and at the same time leaving enough unanswered so they’ll click through on some of the ads on your page to get more information.

Hmmm, sort of like Chinese food. :)

“to strike the perfect balance between value and piqued interest” – this makes me want to re-think or re-examine a lot of my content as I am not sure i have got that bit right. I tend to be too complete with my articles and website content.

Hi Sean

Human psychology is so very interesting. The curiosity factor is a huge driving force in our need to explore. You just need to look at small babies and children who are pure curiosity! And isn’t it a wonderful thing.

I am sure the most profitable advertisers in the world are the ones that really captured human emotion and inquisitiveness. I like this suggestion and I think I do this, coming from a long line of story tellers.

I am going to invest in a good copywriting course as I know that writing is a skill that can be learned and any copywriting tips in the meantime are most welcome.

Hi Sean
Any copywriting tips are welcome, it is not easy to get that balance.
Elly’s right a copywriting course would be a very wise move to make.

Adding value to the web is really important and giving your reader a sense of value for taking the time to read your article is important…..however as mentioned, you don’t want to give everything away in your article or they won’t need to go and hunt for any more information.

Most people say to put your adsense block up in the top LH side in a square box format, but doesnt it make more sense to have them down the bottom so that when the reader gets to the end of your article they can just click instead of scrolling up to the top again?

It does make sense Jayne, the unfortunate thing is that many people don’t actually get to the bottom of the page. It can be a good idea to have Adsense in both spots if that is your sole source of website monetisation ;-)

Thanks Sean – given the fact that you can have three adsense blocks on a page this gives you the flexibility to put one there as well – with the trick being not to make you page like it is just full of ads :-)
