Email List Marketing Tips – Creating Drool Factor

Email List Marketing TipsIf you already know a lot of people who are doing really well with email marketing, chances are that they’ve found a great strategy that works.

It probably didn’t happen over night. Either they tried and failed quite a bit before finding a formula that worked or if they did do well off the bat, they probably learned some email list marketing secrets from a successful pro.

It takes a lot of effort to pull together a decent sized email marketing list. Getting permission to market to people isn’t all that easy. Don’t waste your list on lackluster emails that either won’t get opened or won’t get actioned.

Here are some tricks for creating drool factor. Drool factor can result in your list members being excited when they get notification of an email from you. They’ll open it because you inform them, entertain them, or have already created anticipation with them because of something you said or wrote.

Here are some helpful email list marketing tips:

Email List Marketing – Know Your Audience

Know your audience. Knowing who you’re ‘talking’ to is important. You need to write in a way that appeals to them. Hopefully you’ve gone about building your email marketing list in a way that has led to you being memorable to some of your members already.

If they’re following you on sites such as Facebook and Twitter, chances are that they’ll recognise your name when it arrives in their inbox or RSS feeder and that will help you get opened. Even if that’s not the case, knowing your audience can help you craft the sort of messages that will get opened.

Subject Line

The subject line of an email is the headline. It can work for you or it could fall flat. It could also fall directly into the hands of the spam handling software and never see the light of day. Learn to write great subject lines. Take cues from master copywriters and internet marketers. Go ahead and subscribe to some popular lists and you’ll see what is meant here.

Subject lines can be timely and relate to hot topics, can offer to fix a problem, can be funny, can pique curiosity, can offer a freebie, etc. You want to grab attention so your list member opens that message straight away.

Content

Content is vital. If your content falls flat, not only will you not get any action but your readers will eventually stop opening or will unsubscribe all together. A few tips for great content include: saying important things first.

If you can write attention grabbing content within the first few sentences, you’ve got a good chance of them reading through to your call to action. And, the first few sentences are important as well because not only do you want to grab the reader’s attention but some people use a preview pane on their email. When people use that pane, they’ll make a determination on whether or not to read your message by more than just the subject line.

Did you create drool factor in that subject line? Be sure you deliver what you promised in that subject line, otherwise you’ll lose credibility. Emails should be interesting, valuable, and help the reader before they go for the jugular in terms of trying to get a sale.

Many internet marketers who are successful don’t even try to sell in every single message. They build relationships, provide value, and for that reason they do well via retaining readers and make money when they do send out a stronger call to action.

Call To Action

The call to action doesn’t have to be a “buy now” button. It might work better if it usually isn’t. It could change on an ongoing basis. It could be to suggest the reader share the information with others, visit a site to get more info, sign up for something, register for a free webinar or workshop, get a free e-book or special report, etcetera.

It’s not a bad idea to vary your call to action. If all you say is ‘buy now’ you’re going to turn people off. If you provide value and new information, they may start to ‘drool’ for your next message.

Preview Of What Is To Come

A lot of successful email or newsletter marketers preview the next message at the end of the current message. This creates anticipation and is a proven way to help increase the chance of your next message being read.

A great way to come up with a proven strategy is to follow a few popular lists in your niche and dissect the marketer’s methods. Chances are that you’ll find some great email list marketing approaches as well as learn a few tips on what NOT to do. Happy email marketing!
