Your Blog Traffic Formula

in Blogging, Free Online Tools

3 things you should use with blogging we talked about a magical traffic formula for your blog traffic.  There are things you need to do to your main blog site to get constant traffic but with each entry you write, you should do a few things to bring in extra traffic.

Today we’ll give you a few tips on coming up with your own formula to use each time you post a new entry.  You may choose to use some of the tools listed below or you may have some of your own but developing a routine (or several alternating routines) can help you get traffic each and every time you post a new blog entry.  These methods will improve your site’s SEO as well!

What’s the formula for getting traffic?

You have to do some blog SEO! While pinging services and search engine spiders will help you get some hits, you also have to devise your own traffic formula to get word out that your blog has got something new that people might be interested in. It can make the difference between a few hits and a lot of traffic with actual subscribers

After each awesome blog entry you write, encourage further traffic by doing a few quick things.

Here are some things you could do:

  • Go to Twitter.com and update your status
  • Sign up for a service like Ping.fm which will update multiple social services
  • Give yourself a thumbs up on StumbleUpon
  • Visit your friends at Plurk.com and tell them you’ve updated your blog
  • Update your MySpace, StumbleUpon, Tumblr and Live Journal blogs and update those
  • Use the bookmarklet Onlywire which updates several services for you
  • Digg your post
  • Submit your post to Yahoo Buzz
  • If the entry is really a good one, you can get a lot of mileage out of it and write an article, Squidoo lens or Hubpage (or all three!) with resource box links to your new blog entry.

If you use Firefox and want to save some time, you could create sets of tabs with these sites home pages loaded so that you can simply write a blog and then open up a new set of tabs to perform the actions quickly and easily.

Have a most outstanding day.

Thanks Sean

There’s a lot of services here that I haven’t been using. I better get cracking.

Is there some way to automate posting to them? Would save a lot of time.

There are a few services mentioned in the article Gee (like ping.fm) for instance that will update multiple sites with the click of a button.

That’s great Sean.
Its obvious there are plenty of tools around to save a lot of time.
Any chance of putting a list together so we could work through them? Maybe post it in the forum?

Hi Sean,

This is a really interesting list. I think it’s invaluable to have friends that are willing to submit my stuff to the various social bookmarking and networking sites for me. I think it definitely helps me to promote my new posts and attract more traffic. Obviously, I return the favor for them and we help each other out. :)

It’s great that there are lots of ways to promote my stuff, as everybody is different and looks in different places. Just have to be organized and keep them all going :) . I will have to take a loser look at OnlyWire.

Hi Sean,
Quite a few sites I had not heard before reading the formula in this post. I’ve written down the ones not yet joined and will visit later, especially during the next blog post.

Hi Sean

Thankyou for that wonderful list. It will definitely help.

I am having to do a marketing plan for an affiliate launch so those suggestions are ideal to incorporate into my plan.

Many thanks

Hi Sean,
Thank you for the list, I will keep the list where I will see it easily there are some I have heard of and used but a couple I had not heard of, so I will take a look. Looks like we will all need a blog traffic formula.

Hi Rita,

I love how Sean gives us a blog traffic formula. I can just write a blog post and then work my way down the list and check off each one as I go. I think this gives me the best possible chance of getting traffic.

I’ll have to create my Blog Traffic Formula and it will include all the items on this list. Another checklist to put on the wall by the computer and add to my Learn and Earn notebook.

Streamlining the process of being updating the world every time you blog will be very important and that was a great idea to use the tabs. I have a “daily” bookmark which I open in tabs everyday just so I dont forget to go there – so this is also a really good idea!

A great list of what to do to make sure you don’t miss anything. There are also some great plugins for Wordpress (if that is who you are using to blog with) and also some add-ons to Firefox which can help with the process – but the important part is to be consistent and don’t forget a step
