Here at www.seanseo.com we like to tell you about tools we think you’ll find useful. The AddThis tool is fantastic and a wonderful tool for any blog. Not only can it help you with traffic and social bookmarking but it’s aesthetically pleasing as well.
Social marketing is important but so is blog design and this tool is clean looking and definitely an asset to any blog because it makes it simple for people to help you spread the word about your posts.
What is AddThis?
AddThis gives you a bit of code to add to your site design that allows each post to have a section at the bottom with a list of social bookmarking sites. When visitors like your post, they can click one of their favourite social bookmarking tools directly below the post to spread the word. Tools include: FaceBook, MySpace, Delicious, Digg and others. If you look below each of our posts here you can see that you can ad us to your Technorati Favourites, Stumble us, etc.
How Much Does it Cost?
AddThis doesn’t cost a thing and it’s easy to install on your site. If people use a specific tool on a regular basis and see the button to manually add that on the bottom of your post, they’ll be much more likely to do so. That little logo will remind them that they can do it with just a few clicks and making it as easy as possible for people to tell the world how useful your post is will increase your exposure and your SEO value.
Have a most outstanding day.

Do the end-users actually use these social networking/sharing widgets? I’ve been an internet user for years, and while I get the odd facebook groups invite, I never really received a share of a webpage myself…
Hi Fabs,
It would depend on the amount of traffic you receive to your site, and whether or not those visitors use the social sites that you have widgets for. From personal experience, I know that some of the social media widgets I use, do get clicked and shared on those particular sites.
Regards – Sean
If you are in an lime community you can be helping one another out in this regard?
Do you have any online friends who can do this?
There are other tools that can be used. The choice is a lot bigger now.
Hi Sean,
There are so many choices when it comes to choosing a social bookmarking plug-in. At the moment I’m using the Sexy Bookmarks plug-in and I love it. It has all of my favorite sites in it and you can choose which ones you want displayed.
I guess it’s a personal choice as to which one you want to use.
That is a great point Jazz – there are many available which all have slightly different settings and appearances. A lot of it comes down to personal choice, feel and where you want to place them on your website.
Social media gains importance, so it is a great idea to make it easy for your visitors to use them and to spread the word about what you are doing.
I first came across AddThis yesterday on another of Sean’s blog articles. It was rather propitious as I working on Mufindi Orphans (.ca) at the time and was wondering what I would add to facilitate social bookmarking. And voila, there it was.
Wow, this Learn and Earn competition has already paid dividends.
Hi Don,
That’s great. Sean’s blogs are full of great information that you can apply at any time to your own site. I guess that’s the thing. When you have a blog; you’re never really done.
There’s always some new thing that will improve your site in some way.
What a great idea! I’m going to get AddThis and have it installed on my blogs right away. I know that social bookmarking is an important part of getting people to know who you are. Facebook was the only Social Media I used until I started this competition. I’ve signed up for Digg, but I forgot about StumbleUpon. Thank you, Sean!
I have tries a couple of tools but I haven’t been able to get some of them to show I will try the addthis one now and see how that goes
Thanks Sean,
I am going to go and check out this tool now to see if I might add it to my website tool kit.
Have you used AddThis on this website – or is this a different plugin? There are a great number of choices for wordpress which is great for customisation.
