It’s great when you know that your blog entries are getting read. Not only can you get traffic from the seach engines for your keywords, but you can be in someone’s blog reader or their e-mail inbox on a daily basis when you post blogs. People can subscribe to your blog through RSS feeds.
How do you get blog subscribers?
- Make sure that your RSS feed is easy to see. Put your subscribe button above the fold on your website in a prominent spot.
- Consider reminding people to subscribe to your blog on a regular basis
- Provide valuable site content that people will want to get more of!
- Put social bookmarking buttons on your site so people can bookmark your articles and bring you new potential subscribers
How do you keep blog subscribers?
Once you get subscribers, you want people to want to read your new entries and the best way to do that is:
- Provide regular updates. No one will stay subscribed if you only post once a month or so
- Avoid being too political or controversial unless that’s the sort of blog you’re wanting
- Write compelling headlines so people will open your email or click on your link in their reader
- Write a catchy teaser with a good enough cliffhanger to get them to want to click to your site to read more
And…an Important Blog Monetization Tip:
Only show a teaser in the feed otherwise people can read their entire entry without looking at any of your advertisements!
