There are many options when choosing to participate in Affiliate Programs. You may have a hard time deciding which one, or ones, will provide the greatest benefit for you and your site. Look over these tips to help you get started.
Affiliate Program Basics – Pros And Cons
Signing up for an affiliate program means that you are agreeing to send traffic to a particular website, usually one that sells products or services. How much you receive in exchange for this promotion is based on either the amount of traffic that clicks through from a link on your site, or the amount of sales which can be attributed to your efforts.
The good thing about this is that the process of promotion is a two-way street. Your URL will experience greater traffic because it is being used as a conduit to another site. Not only do you get more visitors, you get paid for it, too.
Conversely, if you do not have a lot of visitors already, this will probably not be profitable for you. And the relationship could have a negative effect on your standing as an affiliate marketer on the internet.
If you are driving your visitors to an online merchant that does not enjoy a good reputation or perhaps experiences a high volume of customer complaints, those negative aspects could be associated with you personally. And if your web pages contain too many links to hard-sell sites, it could turn visitors away.
Networks Versus Individual Affiliate Programs
An individual affiliate program is one that you personally set up with a particular company. For instance, the Amazon affiliate program is a popular one that many websites choose to participate in solely.
An affiliate network is a company that offers their services to act as an intermediary between your business and any number of companies with Affiliate Programs. This intermediary does all the work of tracking activity, arranging for payment, and setting up your website with the proper links. In exchange, they take a commission of revenue earned from the programs.
There are advantages and disadvantages to both.
One benefit from using an affiliate network is that you can come into contact with some rather obscure, but potentially worthwhile, programs. Since the network company does all the leg work and research for you, all you have to do is sit back and reap the rewards. Many of them also categorise affiliate programs by type of product or industry, making it easy to find relationships that make sense and enhance your content.
If you choose to do the work yourself and personally set up an affiliate account, then, of course, you get to keep all the profits, too. But it is also easy to be taken advantage of. This is more common with some of the lesser known companies. You should always feel safe when dealing with a large organisation like Amazon because they have far too much lose from a lot of negative publicity.
In fact, Amazon is probably the most effective global affiliate program. There is a reason for this. Not only is Amazon known worldwide as a leader in its industry, it has developed a huge network of affiliates to continually increase its popularity and sales revenue. As a result, it continues to grow and grow.
Participating in a single, or any number, of Affiliate Programs is a great way to monetise your website. After all, why not make the most amount of money you can from your internet marketing efforts? There are very few negatives and quite a lot of positives you can gain from these relationships.
Have a most outstanding day.

Hi Sean,
I have found the best information and the most suitable advice on Affiliate programs in the ebook
Year Of The Affiliate YOTA. It can be downloaded for FREE. I have a copy of this book and can recommend it as being the best book i have found on the subject. It’s packed full of information on how to get started with Affiliate Internet Marketing.
Sean my sites are not as yet getting a lot of traffic. Is there a way to be effectively promoting under this scenario?
Hello Sean,
Affiliate Marketing is the way to go for me. I do not have set up the product or be out of pocket. Its easy and simple to use once you know how. What has been holding me back for so long then? I think it was a lack of knowledge, not finding a niche product to promote with Affiliate Products, combined with a lack of understanding. With easy to understand instructions from you (sean) I will be able to branch out into many companies for Affiliate Marketing, including Amazon.
Cheers Sean
Lisa
Hi Sean,
I am really interested in affiliate marketing. I think it’s an easy way to get started making money online and yet, I’m still struggling to do this. I think I just need to learn some more strategies and try doing some things differently.
I can improve on my marketing skills and try some different products out. I believe I can make money being an affiliate marketer, I just need a little more education.
Hi Sean
I am very excited about Affiliate marketing especially as I will be promoting your products, which I use and really love.
Throughout this competition already I have read over 400 articles, absorbed as much information as possible about each one and made comments. I also copied and pasted all the URL’s into a word document and made comments beside them so I know which ones to revisit and go over again. I read lot’s about SEO and Affiliate marketing
I understand that keyword research done properly and adhered to plus implementing as many SEO techniques as possible through many avenues will result in traffic coming to my site with many conversions. That’s what I want!
